6/26: Reviews of "My December"
By: Rodney Ho | June 26, 2007, 12:38AM EST

The reviews are in and they aren’t awful. They aren’t great, either. Lots of comparisons to Alanis Morissette and Pat Benatar. Everyone, including the New York Times, loves the last cut “Irvine.”
The Newsday reviewer says it “isn’t as good as her intentions.”
The New York Post gives it two out of four stars and apes what Simon might say: “it’s just okay” and “more of the same.”
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram doesn’t agree with the Post and says “it’s not a carbon copy” of “Breakaway.” And how about this for faint praise? It “isn’t a wretched misfire.” This reviewer gave it three out of five stars and suggested a few pop hooks would have helped us swallow the anger a bit easier. (I agree!)
But as the Boston Globe noted, “Clarkson isn’t feeling very hooky, and the need to share her feelings was her guiding principle.”
Sarah Rodman at the Globe wrote a more positive take overall: ” ‘My December’ offers an appealing if uneven snapshot of a girl with a big voice and big emotions who’s in transition, looking to express herself as she experiences the final four stages of grief over the death of a romantic relationship.”
The Los Angeles Times provided the most intelligent piece I’ve seen about the controversy, defending Kelly as an artist, that all this din over her clashes with the label cloud the actual quality of the CD and raises the question whether a male artist would face similar scrutiny. Here’s the story.
The key graf:
This mess also, frankly, reeks of sexism. Casting Clarkson as a deluded ingĂ©nue and Davis as a father figure gone ballistic — not to mention the inevitable speculation about her weight — conceals other relevant issues. “My December” is a rock record, but rock radio plays barely any female artists. And there’s a history of women trying to evolve and facing resistance: consider Lauryn Hill, Joan Osborne, Macy Gray, Paula Cole, even Sheryl Crow. Men experiment and they’re applauded, or at least indulged; women do so and it’s assumed that a boyfriend has led them astray.

I wasn't off the chain yesterday. I was just being the typical flatscreen. Now you see how annoying it gets. We had asked you to stop jabbing at people 100's of times, but you kept doing it so I figured I would give you a taste of your own medicine. It wasn't all that funny was it! :-(

No LVR. After supper (6:45), I layed down on the couch for a few minutes and woke up at 10:00. I got up and went to bed. Guess I was tired. I have it recorded so I will watch it when I get home. I love TIVO.

um....dog hairs....dna? i am obviously missing something.....
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:23AM EST
Flat, the proof is in the pudding. Your words are empty hollow shells right now that no one is putting much stock in. So, if you're truly sorry and mean to change, please do so. We will welcome the change. But you have to show it on a consistent basis, otherwise the apology means nothing.
Posted by: KPH on June 26, 2007 9:24AM EST
I went back and read yesterdays blog. Damned if Shay didnt morph into Flats LOL! I am so glad I found this blog you guys make my workday a lot less boring LOL!
I beleive he's innocent!people working that case were corrupt and had to convict someone!
Posted by: IdolLVR on June 26, 2007 9:25AM EST
kimmy, they were doing dna on dog hairs found at the scene (i guess) and his dog. that's if i'm talking about the right case. i think i heard that they were doing other dna stuff too. so those may be the results they are going to reveal at 10:00. he's looking to get a new trial based on the dna evidence though the dog dna didn't pan out.

Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 9:29AM EST
IdolLVR testing the dog hairs and other crap were inconclusive. If they had that man locked up for all these years for nothing. . .that is a sad sad state of our justice system.
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 9:29AM EST
have i been in a hole? i don't even know who or what ya'll are talking about. who is wayne williams?
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:32AM EST
Kimmy, Wayne Williams was convicted for some of the child murders that occured in Atlanta in the late 70s (I think that's the timeframe). It has long been speculated that he didn't committ any of the murders. Too many questions that weren't answered
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:33AM EST
Oh, BTW...good morning Kimmy, Jex, Suga and anyone else I missed when I first posted! Merntin!!

aaahhhhh, k. gotcha. i am sooooo sick of hearing about paris no talent, need to keep her legs and mouth closed hilton. blech!
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 9:37AM EST
Good Merntin Choc!
kimmy, Wayne Williams was actually convicted of killing two black men, but they put all the child murders on him that were going on at that time. No evidence to speak of, just speculation. A lot of people believed he was a scapegoat.
Posted by: IdolLVR on June 26, 2007 9:39AM EST
yeah, i'm tired of the whole paris thing too. i cannot believe that people were outside the prison at 4:30 a.m. LA time to cheer her on... they are as mindless as she is.
Posted by: Mitch on June 26, 2007 9:41AM EST
I remember seeing a movie on Lifetime I think about the Atlanta Child Murders and the movie raised alot of questions as to his guilt. If he is innocent, I hope they are able to determine it but how do you give someone 30 years of their life back?
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 9:41AM EST
morning choc!
agreed, Idollvr....agreed. i would have been just as happy and content today had i not heard a dayum thang 'bout her stank ass.
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 9:41AM EST
Of course they are going to say the results are inconclusive, meaning "he didn't do it, but ain't no way in the hell we gonna let an angry man out on the screets after being in jail 20 something years for something he didnt' do". Hell to the nawl!! LOL!!
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 9:43AM EST
Mitch, you can't give back life to anyone. "If" he is innocent, they will give him millions of dollars. But if he is guilty, we can finally close that chapter and move on. He has always said he was innocent. I guess we will know in 15 minutes.
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:44AM EST
So Jex, WW was NEVER charged in any of the "actual" child murders? Just two "men"? I thought they were adolescents who were considered apart of those string of murders.
Ya know, I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out he wasn't guilty of the 2 murders he's convicted of. Considering "the times" in which this occured..OMIGOD...I don't even want to say...
Posted by: IdolLVR on June 26, 2007 9:44AM EST
didn't they just release someone else recently (like in the last 6 or 9 months) after 10 or 20 years in jail based on dna evidence?
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 9:45AM EST
Mitch, that's an excellent question.
And they've been asking it a lot lately with the growing use of DNA testing.
Posted by: SugaBear on June 26, 2007 9:46AM EST
Y'all, I'm gonna have to quit my job if these folks don't stop bothering me with work related issues. I'm just saying, have some respect for the Blog! Hey Choc - Merntin to ya!
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 9:46AM EST
Choc, he was only convicted of the two men. No one was ever brought up on charges of the kids. Since the killing pattern was the same, they just blamed the other murders on him to shut every one up. Coincidentally though, after he was arrested, the killings stopped so either he did it, or whoever was doing it was smart enough to stop!
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:47AM EST
Think about this...what if he is proven innocent after all these years? That means the murderer is still out there. That's more frightening than WW getting out of jail.
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 9:49AM EST
Choc, if he didn't do it, hopefully that person has died in these 20 something years and resting well in HELL!
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:49AM EST
LOL@ Suga!!
Shay, I think it may be the latter...the real killer(s) were smart enough to stop after WW's conviction.
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 9:50AM EST
I think serial killers have no control or sense enough to stop what they're doing. so, if they stopped while he was in jail and he's innocent, maybe the someone else who did it is in jail for a lesser charge and just won't own up to it. of course, the btk killer did stop for 20 years only to do it again and get caught. see, this is why i don't watch the news....it freaks me the hell out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:50AM EST
If I remember my bible studies....there's no rest in HELL!! LOL
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 9:51AM EST
Jex, I know this has to be chilling for you because you and I are from here and you were close in age to those kids that were disappearing. I was still around 5 years old but you were a little older.
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 9:53AM EST
LOL @ Choc!!!
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 9:53AM EST
I was being sarcastic with the "resting well". LOL!!
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 9:54AM EST
Idol, there's been a lot of that going on lately. There's some civil rights group that is digging up old cases where DNA testing is changing the outcome of the verdict.
But like Mitch said, how do you give someone back 20-30 years of their life. That is so sad to me.
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:55AM EST
Kimmy, it may not have been the work of a "serial" killer, per se. What do you call the murderers who lynched hundreds of black men and women? Most killed on more than one occasion. Are they labled "serial" killers or just hateful bastards?
I'm not trying to stir up ugly emotions here but my thought is that, given the times and location, these child murders may have been at the hands of hateful Klansmen. It's not so far fetched a theory. JMO
Posted by: IdolLVR on June 26, 2007 9:56AM EST
That's true. I feel really bad for those who are truly innocent. You can't give them back those years.
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 9:57AM EST
well, you can start by giving them a ton of freaking money, free healthcare, a house and all the therapy they will need for issues that they would have, a public apology, a pony, a car.....even all those things wouldn't erase the trauma, but it would be a good start to the rest of their lives. makes me sad and mad as hell too.
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 9:58AM EST
Oh...Kimmy that question isn't directed at you for you to try and answer. ( : More rhetorical in nature. ( :
Headed to my staff mtg at 10am. Be back later...
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 9:59AM EST
true, choc. i never thought of that...and seeing how it stopped when he was in jail and accused....hmmmm. valid point.
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 10:00AM EST
One last question...why aren't any of the local ATL news channels reporting on the WW deal? Not even the AJC?
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 10:00AM EST
Excuse me shayscreen, but I was only a baby at the time. Please and Thank you!
I remember my mom wouldn't let me go anywhere and my brothers were always with me. I didn't really think much of it. I was thinking that the kids were probaly taking candy from strangers. "Well they just shouldn't have done that. Don't they know better? 'Nay, nay! from strangers stay away'!"
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 10:01AM EST
Choc, they don't care. Only after the "fact" will they start reporting and it will be on every channel and newspaper. It ain't news yet until the results are in.
Posted by: on June 26, 2007 10:02AM EST
See, that is what makes me crazy...why is Paris news and WW not? Real news seems to have disappeared nowadays.
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 10:04AM EST
Jex, I said a little older than me, meaning only a couple of years. It was going on consecutively for a few years so I figured you had to be young.
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 10:04AM EST
A PONY!! LMAO!! Thanks a lot kimmy!
I wasn't drinking anything, so snot was the only thing that came out of my nose this time.

eewww Jex!! Make sure to clean that up LOL!!
Very good question Choc...I had no idea this was happening today.......what a shame...something this big and there's no coverage!

LOL! Sorry Jexy.....;)
Posted by: KPH on June 26, 2007 10:08AM EST
I have long thought that they had good evidence on him in the Nathaniel Cater case which is the one that they had officers under a bridge at night they heard a splash and other officers stopped Williams as he came to the other side of the bridge. Caters body was found a little downstream from that bridge with carpet fiber that matched the carpet in the back of his car and his home and dog hair on the body that looked like hair from a dog like his. Thats not 100% proof but sounds like he did it to me. I dont however think he killed all those boy's the evidence just wasnt there and a killer got away. Just my opinion. I guess the DNA will prove some things today but will it prove he killed them all?

Posted by: on June 26, 2007 10:24AM EST
does that mean he killed all of them or just one child, shay? with no news on it, i'm kinda lost!
Posted by: linnykat on June 26, 2007 10:24AM EST
just a belated comment/question....re wayne williams and his questionable guilt.... how do you explain that NEVER again did the kids start being killed like that... a serial killer just doesn't HAVE the mental control to STOP because someone else took the rap for him... so where did he go? not that i believe necessarily it was WW, BUT... that one question i think needs to be answered as well... IF WW was innocent of the child murders... where did the perp go? (or as they say on criminal minds, the "unsub")... one of the bigger mysteries in crime history...
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 10:25AM EST
But why did they get the red-neckedest person in the entire country to make the announcement?
Posted by: linnykat on June 26, 2007 10:25AM EST
ok tons to do after a day off, so now i'm back, but i'm gone again...see you later!!!
LOL @ JEX!!!
Posted by: KPH on June 26, 2007 10:38AM EST
Well Williams killed at least 11 of them. I wonder if they can convict him of other ones now and give him the death penalty. He deserves it if anyone does. The Bible says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and why should we pay to keep the child molester and murderer alive!?
Posted by: Eve07 on June 26, 2007 10:47AM EST
Hey Guys,
I didn't hear the verdict on V-103, what was said, did the DNA prove he did it? The scariest part about his case was if he was released would the killings begin again.
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 10:47AM EST
The press report is just a bunch of malarkey. A lot of filibusting from what I hear.
Posted by: Eve07 on June 26, 2007 10:48AM EST
KPH, did they really prove he killed 11 people?
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 10:49AM EST
Nothing conclusive. Lost blood. Dog hair samples that are "the same", but yet don't match. Jibber-jabber.
Posted by: KPH on June 26, 2007 11:04AM EST
In my opinion Eve yes maybe not 11 but 5 because thats all they did the DNA tests on. Plus as I stated in an earlier post I think they proved he killed Cater back in the trial.

Hello...I just got my internet back after it went kaflooey yesterday while I was trying to say hello to Choc, Not having internet makes me feel like Paris Hilton must have felt in jail! I just wanted to scream! I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support before they decided that the problem was theirs, not mine...then found out that my whole subdivision had lost it as well. GRRR!
Anyway, I'm going to catch up...from my mailbox, I can see you had an interesting afternoon yesterday.

This whole case gives me the creeps. I remember being around 11 at the time these murders began and I lived in Mississippi and I was scared of ever stepping foot in Georgia. I have a friend whose co-worker has a 35 year old daughter who was friends with one of the kids killed and saw his body being removed from the water and she was traumatized so severely that her mental capacity did not advance past the age of 13.
Posted by: 1CHOCL8T on June 26, 2007 11:15AM EST
Rodney, good b/c I've been relying on my fellow bloggers to keep me up-to-date. There's absolutely no mention on 11-Alive's nor WSB-TV's sites about the conference.
Posted by: shay on June 26, 2007 11:19AM EST
Eve, one of the kids was killed in the apartments next door to us during the time tke killings were taking place. We immediately packed our stuff and moved to Macon, Georgia. My dad was scared for my brother because he was about 9 at the time. The whole state of Georgia was terrified at that time. We couldn't go outside or anything. I get the creeps just thinking about it!
Posted by: Mitch on June 26, 2007 11:20AM EST
I was just talking with some of my coworkers here. One said she was around 5 at the time said that even here in Charlotte her parents would not let her go outside to play.
Posted by: Jex on June 26, 2007 11:23AM EST
OMG Eve, that's terrible. I can't imagine having gone through that.
I remember being a little scared, but I really didn't understand the severity of what was going on.
