4/25: Idol tidbits

With Sanjaya gone, ratings on the first Sanjaya-less performance show went down a bit, too. The preliminary Nielsen ratings for last night was about 25.6 million, the lowest for a performance show this season and 3 million below the comparable show last year. Among 18 to 49 year olds, the ratings are down 17%. Typically, when final numbers come out, “Idol” gains another 400,000 or so, so it won’t be quite as bad as the prelim numbers look. And indeed, performance shows in general have been down about 10 percent from last year. Oddly, the results shows have been unusually strong the past two weeks, pulling in bigger numbers than the performance shows, perhaps because folks were waiting to see Sanjaya go home.
Also, I’ll be talking to Bucky Covington later today. Any questions? I’m also gabbing with Elliott Yamin for real tomorrow (in the sense I’ll get more than five minutes.). And I’ll be talking to Philip Bray, the executive director of SafeHouse Outreach, which helps homeless people in downtown Atlanta. The group was featured on “American Idol” last night.
Plus, did anyone follow “Pussycat Dolls: The Search for the Next Doll”? It was a fun show though I can’t imagine the prize being all that great since nobody really knows who is in the Pussycat Dolls anyways. They’re as interchangable as a Menudo member. Oddly, the winner named last night, Asia, is probably now better known than any of the existing Dolls. She already has a chip on her shoulder, as Melissa learned in the finale episode. I can’t imagine what Asia would be like behind the scenes with the existing group members. The other two finalists, Chelsea and Melissa, are both actually very talened. Chelsea, in fact, is such a good singer, she could easily be a top 10 finalist on “Idol” and in reality, she probably would have been better off doing this show than “Pussycat Dolls,” which pulled in about 1/9th the ratings of “Idol.”

I watched a couple espisodes of the PCD and thought that Asia would win because she had that kind of exotic look.
And honestly like Rodney said, other than Nicole, I wouldn't be able to spot a Doll if she bit me. I'd probably kick her arse, but I wouldn't recognize her.

The National Enquirer has unearthed legal records that show that Sangina Malakar is hiding a deep and dark family secret. And it's not in the closet! Wink wink.
Sangina's mother was sent to jail for running an indoor pot-growing operation out of her garage!

Malakar's American-born mother, Jillian Blyth, was busted in Pierce County, Wash., in February 2005 after neighbors reported smelling marijuana and noticed a large vent on the garage roof, according to court records obtained exclusively by The
Enquirer.
Cops discovered 310 marijuana plants, growing lights -- and Sanjaya's then 17-year-old sister Shyamali!
Shyamali told officers that her mom was at another location in nearby Federal Way, Washington, and when the cops got there, they found a second marijuana-growing operation!
That bitch is hardcore!
Sangina's mom pleaded guilty to one felony count of unlawful manufacturing
of a controlled substance. She faced up to five years behind bars, but
was sentenced to just 30 days.
"She's very lucky," said a local law enforcement source. "The judge
obviously went easy on her because of her kids and the fact that she had
no prior record."
While his mom - seen rooting for her son in the "Idol" audience in a low-cut T-shirt emblazoned "Momjaya" - was in jail, Sanjaya lived with
an aunt.
"In interviews, Sanjaya has said that he went to live with his aunt because his mom moved to Federal Way and he wanted to stay near his school friends," said a source. "But that's only half the story. Sanjaya had no choice but to live with his aunt because his mom was behind bars. His mom's arrest was heartbreaking enough, but having her go to jail was devastating. Sanjaya has covered up his anguish ever since. Despite everything, he still loves his mom dearly and trusts her."

I still say Lakisha goes tonight. Too many people really have strong feelings against her - more than any other remaining contestant. With her it's a personal problem...i.e. people voting for anyone but her because she rubs them wrong for whatever reason.
I know dialidol says she stays, but I say nay. She is the last contestant that people really don't want on the show with a passion. Haley personally was hated and Sanjaya was hated, too, and now Lakisha follows suit.
Aftetr this it will really be a crap shoot, eh? Nobody left who the masses really hate, so what will happen? ANYONE could be dumped - including Melinda or Jordin. Without a bogeyman (or woman) to rally AGAINST there is a big danger for everyone left standing.

Yeah, but Lakisha and Haley didn't have a reason to be hated. I guess just because of what the judges say people turn them down. Because if the judges never comment Lakisha and she just goes out and sings, I think that people would feel a little differently about her. But yeah I say she could probably be going home tonight.
