4/24: Sanjaya in DC & on Letterman
By: Rodney Ho | April 23, 2007, 6:53PM EST
From the Washington Post, covering the White House Correspondents Dinner where Sanjaya was invited on behalf of People magazine:
Sanjaya Malakar, the shy, slender, 17-year-old “American Idol” reject, was at his table when a tall, middle-aged man stopped by to ask for an autograph. The boy’s hosts, from People magazine, tried to shoo him away.
“We are trying to let him eat,” they explained.
The man protested: “But I’m the governor of New York.”
And so Eliot Spitzer got his autograph. It was that kind of night. It always is.
And here’s what Sanjaya will read on tonight’s “Late Night With David Letterman.” Sadly, it’s not very funny in print. Let’s hope he does a good job presenting it.
THE “LATE SHOW” TOP TEN
“Things I Learned from ‘American Idol’”
[As presented by Sanjaya Malakar, the most recent contestant voted off “American Idol,” on the Monday, April 23 broadcast of the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, seen weeknights (11:35 PM*12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.]
10. The camera adds ten pounds to your mohawk.
9. Work hard and make sacrifices, you can finish in 7th place.
8. It’s very important to “Keep it real, dawg.”
7. I should have gone for the immunity idol - oh wait, that’s “Survivor.”
6. On-camera Simon is a bit nasty, but off-camera, he’s a total jerk.
5. Voting for yourself 100 times an hour causes some wicked carpal tunnel.
4. When you forget the words, just do this.
(Sanjaya belts out a riff like“Ohhhhhhhh”)
3. Honestly, I thought I was auditioning for “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”
2. Nothing.
1. America loves performers with bad hair - right, Dave?

Oh yes...this Santaya thing is a bit much....Earlier someone said it just right. "If we wanted him off the list, why would we want to continuously see/hear him NOW?" It's pure TORTURE. He isn't even capable of giving decent answers to the interview questions. When Ellen asked him about the "Howard Stern" suggested voting process....his response was that he found some to be "creative haters". Ellen asked for an example of such....he couln't remember an example of his own statement. He and Paris should perhaps re-enroll in quite a few necessary classes...especially before continuing the TOUR FOR SUCCESS.

Barbara, I echo your sentiment. Why o Why would we want to see that little bugger when we were DYING to get him off AI? Makes no sense to me either.

The best story of the year: Leftwing idiot singer Sheryl Crow wants us to stop wiping our asses to save the trees! No, I'm not kidding. Check this: http://madzionist.blogspot.com/2007/04/sheryl-crows-cure-for-global-warming.html

Hey everyone. I don't know if any of you have ever read or posted to the usenet group alt.tv.american-idol. If you have, I'm sure you know a poster named Suzanne and her husband Karrde (quite combative and judgemental and outspoken). Anyway, their son Ewan has just been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Distrophy.
Even if you don't know who they are, please keep them and their children in your prayers.
Thanks.

Wanda, that's so sad...I will definitely send up some parayers. Although Baldwin was wrong, I can not believe this is of such National concern. I guess it's all about money and power. This is happening all around us...in our neighborhoods, even churches, grocery stores, etc If we tried to stop these abusive parent who are hollering at their kids...thhey would probably be ready to kick our asses.

On Sheryl Crowe and the one sheet of toilet paper thing...easy to explain...she's a celebrity, they all have bidet's ( for those of you who don't know what a bidet is. look it up) If you have a bidet, you don't need a lot of tp!....She's forgotten what it's like to live in the real world!

Wait i missed Jeb leaving his post as Gov. of Fl and i also missed the new Gov. of NY take office? Where have I been? Sandy really needs to leave the interviews to the grown-ups. He is not good at them at all. Now some of the Top 10 with the right delivery will be funny, esp the last one. But it will all be in the delivery. Personally i dont think he has the goods, so he certainly cant deliever them.
|
|
Posted by: Diane1 on April 23, 2007 7:33PM EST
i dont own a bidet but i know what it is, but dont you still need more than one to dry? Or do they dry for you as well?
On the family, no Wanda, i dont know of this family but i will certainly be in prayer with them. How old is the son? Now is just the husbby combative or both of them?

Posted by: Diane1 on April 23, 2007 7:54PM EST
How come nothing is a surprise anymore? Inside Edition will tell us Letterman's top 10 when they get back. I hope Sandy was at least decent, but if he was he may be the next William Hung. Is he getting paid for this, or is this more AI PR?

I just found this on Charlotte.com:
DeGeneres will team with Seacrest on 'Idol Gives Back'
Zap2it.com
Ryan Seacrest will get a high profile new co-host for this week's "American Idol" charity special.
Seacrest, who has MCed the FOX smash solo since Brian Dunkleman was cut lose after the first season of "Idol," will share the spotlight on Wednesday (April 25) night with Ellen DeGeneres.
As most people with a pulse know by now, "American Idol" has been building up to this week's "Idol Gives Back" two-night spectacular benefiting relief programs for children and young people in extreme poverty in America and Africa. The event is so large that it'll be expanding beyond the mere confines of the "Idol" stage.
Thus, on Wednesday night, Seacrest will host from the show's usual venue, while DeGeneres will report from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. DeGeneres ("Mr. Wrong"), whose daily talk show is an Emmy magnet, recently hosted the 79th Annual Academy Awards, earning mostly respectful reviews.
The two-hour Wednesday show will feature an exhaustive list of celebrity appearances and performances including Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Earth, Wind & Fire, Il Divo, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Josh Groban with the African Children's Choir, Jack Black, Helen Mirren, Rascal Flatts, Quincy Jones, Carrie Underwood and Annie Lennox. Those are just the people mentioned in the most recent "Idol" press release, who knows who else might attend?
Following Tuesday night's standard "Idol" performances (with the ambiguous "life anthem" theme), viewers will vote as usual and corporate sponsors will correspondingly donate money to charity. During the Wednesday show, viewers will be invited to call toll-free pledge lines (or go online) to donate money to the cause.

Diane, the little boy is 6 I believe. Her husband is more combative, almost troll like. The wife is more arrogant than anything. They both love to brag about their superior parenting and perfectly healthy children (they don't vaccinate). Ironic that this terrible disease has struck this little boy. They have 4 sons total, two younger than the sick child. Since this is genetically passed from mother to son, it's possible the two younger ones could be stricken as well. The older boy is 9 or 10 with no symptoms, so I feel sure he is okay.
This is a sobering experience for this family. Their lives and priorities have changed in an instant. At this point, life expectancy is 20-25 years. No cure yet, but they are working frantically, hopefully something will come through soon enough for Ewan.

Yeah D, I bet she has a Toto. They just recalled some of them in Japan for catching fire. That thing is a bidet, blows hot air, closes the lid itself, heck it has a control panel! I wonder if it vibrates? :-)

I just checked mj's and she has the same list up saying that tonight's show was taped yesterday...she even has the judges reviews.

It's also on idolforums.....I think we can pretty much assume that these are correct.
|
|
Posted by: Gooch on April 24, 2007 7:57AM EST
I didn't know that the shows were tape a day in advance. I always thought it was live.
|
|
Posted by: Deirdre on April 24, 2007 7:59AM EST
I don't think they normally ARE taped ahead. This week is special because of the Idol Gives Back stuff. They will be promoting that during the whole show.
Each contestant(according to the spoiler) will have 2 phones numbers and the voting will be for 4 hours rather than 2.
|
|
GOOD MORNING.....where the haters at?

Posted by: Mike S on April 24, 2007 8:14AM EST
THe show is usually live. I guess they taped this weeks show so they can do the whole production thing with it.
I am stoked to hear Lakisha sing "I Believe" - that is one of the single greatest songs put out in the last 5 years. I get chills every time I hear it.

morning greg....we have a list of song spoilers already this morning! These look like they're the real thing!

According to mj's spoiler list....the judges don't like LaKisha's performance. Something about shouting! If this is the case, she may have blown a golden opportunity.
Nice to have you back, Mike.

Ok...we're all thinking about the wrong song(2 different ones, apparently)...the I Believe that LaKisha is singing is the season 3 coronation song...does anyone remember that? The one Fantasia sang.

Nope...I just looked it up...Fantasia's song was called I Believe.

Here are the lyrics to Fantasia's version of I Believe. Diana Degarmo also recorded it since it was to be the winners single whichever won that year.
I Believe lyrics
Artist - Fantasia Barrino Album - Various Songs Lyrics - I Believe
Oh oh oh yeah Have you ever reached a rainbow's end? Did you find your pot of gold? Ever catch a shooting star? Tell me how high did you soar. Ever felt like you were dreaming, just to find that youre awake? And the magic that surronds you, can lift you up, and guide you on your way.
I can see it in the stars across the sky. Dreampt a hundred thousand dreams before now I finally realize. See I've waited all my life for this moment to arrive, and finally, yea yea yea yea yea yea, I believe in the impossible, if I reach deep within my heart. yeah Overcome many obsitcles, won't let this dream juat fall apart. You see i strive to be the very best, shine my light for all to see. Cause anything is possible, When you believe. yeah, yeah now I finally realize You see I've waited all my life for this moment to arrive and finally I believe I said I believe ooooh love keeps lifting me higher you ought to try it for yourself lifting me higher yeah love keeps lifting me higher higher higher higher higher higher love keeps lifting love keeprs lifting me higher yeah ahhh yeah oh yeah, oh yeah yea yea

That's a shame but she's been screaming a lot lately. She has such a good voice, why doesn't she use it!

Hello all! As far as I'm concerned, Kiki can only do it better. Course, that doesn't take much, since I absolutely HATE Fantasia.

morning!
|
|
Posted by: Jex on April 24, 2007 8:47AM EST
I'm not sure what happend to Kiki, but she may just be a one dimensional performer. She has to do the "And I'm telling you" type of songs or it just doesn't work for her.
When she tries to put power behind other songs, it just doesn't work.
And I am SO sick of seeing Sanjaya. I wish he had stayed on the show. At least then his appearanes were limited.
|
|
Posted by: Deirdre on April 24, 2007 8:56AM EST
The bloom will be off Sanjaya's rose in a couple more weeks, then it will start all over again when he appears on the finale!

Posted by: Carla on April 24, 2007 9:07AM EST
Didn't Whitney record an "I Believe" too or did it just have those words in it a lot?
|
|
Posted by: Deirdre on April 24, 2007 9:10AM EST
Carla, that song was called The Greatest Love of All, I think.
|
|
Posted by: Deirdre on April 24, 2007 9:12AM EST
What about Blake singing Imagine? Randy thought it was boring but the other two liked it. Some people are saying no one should touch that song but Lennon. That's a little over the top for me and I think Blake may be just the right Idol to attempt it.
|
|
Posted by: YoDaddy on April 24, 2007 9:14AM EST
Randy Crawford did a great cover of "Imagine." I am sure Blake's version will be pretty but boring.
|
|
Posted by: CHOCL8T on April 24, 2007 9:16AM EST
Yo...Randy Crawford, the jazz singer?
|
|
Posted by: Carla on April 24, 2007 9:16AM EST
No, it wasn't Greatest Love of All D. This is a newer song. It starts off "I Believe in you and me."
|
|
Posted by: Deirdre on April 24, 2007 9:17AM EST
And I'm really looking forward to hearing Melinda sing There Will Come a Day. I think Mitch is right, she could rise above all her other performances tonight...and that ain't easy!
|
|
Posted by: Deirdre on April 24, 2007 9:18AM EST
Oh, sorry, Carla...apparently she likes that phrase! :-)
|

***Teacher Caught Stripping in Club*** Chattanooga detectives who busted an adult entertainment club for having an underage dancer found another surprise -- a dancer who is also a teacher in Kennesaw.
According to police, one of the dancers at Club Coffee was a 15-year-old runaway from Florida. They also arrested stripper Marquita Jett, after finding her with a gun. Then they found out that Jett is a teacher in Kennesaw.

Imagine is one of the best songs ever recorded as far as the message it sends. As far as vocal ability to sing the song it's pretty safe. I hope Blake does it justice. He should be able to pull it off with no problem even though he has limited vocal range.

Good Morning all,
Carla, I Believe in You and Me was my wedding song, luv that song.
I think Kiki will do great singing Fantasia's version of I Believe. Who cares what those contrary judges comments were, it's America's vote that count.
As for Sanjaya, let him have his 15 mins. I think he will make a good model/actor and if the Duffs, Lohans, and Simpsons of the world can have record contracts why can't he?
|
|
Posted by: Jex on April 24, 2007 9:36AM EST

Whatever Lakisha sings, her days are numbered. I believe she will be the next to go.
Her attitude sucks. The way that she holds her mouth is not sexy. SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL HER.

This is a singing competition...not a mouth-holding competition!

|
Posted by: KPH on April 24, 2007 10:05AM EST
Deirdre, I dont know what it is about Dega but a lot of women expose thier brestical outbursteses and dont even expect beads in return. As with Daytona the race is restrictor plate and kind of boring but the party atmosphere creates a nice diversion.
|
|
Posted by: on April 24, 2007 10:08AM EST
Morning Bloggers! lol @YO. I love Lakisha's voice and cant wait till she records a CD. I dont detect an attitude from her, maybe that is just the way she is. Give the girl a break, it seems like opinions of her are like some say about her singing "one dementional"

Lakisha is done. Stick a fork in it.
By the way, some of the "stuff" she's over exposing, NOBODY WANTS TO SEE IT.

Speak for yourself Ms Simon, I love looking at Lakisha. Not every man wants a bone.
|
|
Posted by: Negativo on April 24, 2007 10:22AM EST
Lakisha is toast. No chance for you Kiki, and I really don't care what you sing or how you sing it. Tonight you will be blasted by the judges who wanted you gone last week, or the week before, or the week before... Nothing personal, but you are just not marketable. You are not hip, you are not sexy, you are not a dancer, you are not funny or quirky, and that means only one thing: EXIT STAGE RIGHT BIG MOMMA!
The sad part of it all is that she does have the best voice in the competiton, but that simply isn't enough to win American Idol. SEE YA!
|
|
Posted by: Ms.Simon on April 24, 2007 10:29AM EST
Shaun nothing to do with here being fat.
Can't name them off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are some sexy big people (Lakisha NOT INCLUDED).
Mark my word, I'm thinking she's next to go. She can definitely sing, but here engine is slowing down.
|
|
Posted by: on April 24, 2007 10:31AM EST
I think anyone is MARKETABLE with the right team behind them. Lets look at the past Idol winners, Kelly was not hip, nor sexy, but she is now, Carrie was not hip, and just a lil sexy, but now she is a star! Same goes with Fantasia and look at ruben. The queen of media, Ms Winfrey was a fat, afro wearing nobody, but guess what.......
|
|
Posted by: Negativo on April 24, 2007 10:39AM EST
Shaun, AI judges will NOT let another Reuban fat-ass win the competition. He's been a total flop. Anyway, he was hip and a very strong performer during his run, unlike LAkisha who just is all voice.
As far as Kelly goes, dude, I don't know what you were watching but she looked pretty damn hot to me during season one. She also could perform BETTER than anybody else on stage. Carrie looked cupie doll pretty when she won he crown and sold that girl next door image big-time..
Fantasia was horrendous then and she is horrendous now. Hate her voice, her look, everything. Just trash.
|
|
Posted by: on April 24, 2007 10:43AM EST
Tivo, I dont agree about Kelly on the show, she was a bit over weight at that time. Also, IMO, Tamyra Gray was a better singer.
|
|
Posted by: Ms.Simon on April 24, 2007 10:43AM EST
Shaun, So your Point is What?????
Kelly can sing, although not really attractive, a great voice is the reason for her status right now.
Carrie is pretty and she can sing.
Fantasia has a nice voice most of the time, but pretty much is hideous. Look at her audition tape for idol (Enought said).
Ruben can sing, but he still looks like a King Size mattress.
Oprah is F&***** ugly, but she is a heck of a talk show host., nevertheless she is still ugly. I mean look at her. Her eyes looks like she has down syndrome and she is really starting to look her age.
|
|
Posted by: shay on April 24, 2007 10:47AM EST
Kelly Clarkston was NOT sexy. Not cute at all! Power voice, ok body, not so o.k. face. Outside of Carrie, who looks 1,000 better now, none of the past winners have had the "whole package". JMO!!
|
|
Posted by: on April 24, 2007 10:48AM EST
MsSimon, you made MY point, looks are not the end all be all. Talent can make you look a heck of a lot better. thanks. "starting to look her age" what the hell is that? How old is she suppose to look 21? for a 55 yr old, she looks good. Submit your photos?
|
|
MS SIMON.....WE LIKE NASCAR ON HERE TOO BABY!!!!!GIVE'M HELL BABY....HANG IN THERE SHAUN,SHE MIGHT SAY SOMETHING YOU DONT LIKE!I'M FLATS,NICE TOO MEET YA!

Kelly... "not really attractive"??? I must be watching someone someone else’s when I'm thinking its Kelly, I find her to be very attractive. It just goes to show you that you can't make judgment calls based on looks from your own limited perspective.

JTesla, you are right. It does go to show you that you can't make judgement calls. Lakisha may not be eye candy to some, but I am sure alot of men find her attractive!!

And some men find Oprah to be attractive, not drop dead gorgeous, but attractive. I think there is something wrong with me.

OMG! I agree with Negativo! WHat is this world coming to?!!
Lakesha can sing. That's it. Nothing else. She's not cute (IMO), she has the personality of drywall, and she's not exciting at all - on stage or in interviews.
I'm ready for her to go.

I actually find Kelly more "do-able" than Carrie. She's got a little edge, a great booty (for those of us who like a little something to grip on to), and she moves it. Carrie is beautiful, yes, but very delicate. I get all carnal towards Kelly.
Oh, and as far as Kelly being outsung by Tamayra Gray? As my moniker says: NEGATIVO!! Kelly was better with one vocal cord than all the rest combined, and still is.
Back to Lakisha. She is all voice and nothing else. A great voice to be sure, but this is not a vocal contest it is a performance popularity show and you can't be one dimensional.
