Well, I’m glad Nick Lachey’s team stuck around but it was criminal to see Team Rowland go home. I liked her choir’s take on George Michael’s “Freedom.” But this is definitely a case of name recognition, timing, song choice and demographics. Kelly’s fans were probably not as prevalant (or as plentiful) as Bolton’s. And her team performed second, which is not the best place to be during a two-hour show. Oh, well.
So far, the show has definitely stretched the definition of what a choir is. In most cases tonight, it was a lead singer or two, with a bunch of backup choir singers, nothing terribly special to me. Still, it was better than night one.
From a ratings standpoint, I thought this show would bomb Monday. It actually brought in a respectable 8 million viewers and came in 2nd among 18 to 49 year olds.
Again, the comments by the other judges was a waste of time. Typical comment from Michael Bolton about Team Shelton: “I thought they were great tonight. Great vocals, great energy, a really great performance.” Gee, was it really that great, Michael? At least Patti LaBelle was colorful in her praise. “I’m menopausal. I was sweating anyway. You made me stand up!”
The videos are courtesy of DJSlim’s Idol blog.
1- Team Lachey’s “Friends in Low Places” (Garth Brooks)(below) Nick has the best eye for great choreography (however sloppily executed) and he definitely had fun with this one. The lead singer has real skills, a genuine charm and warmth in his voice. It was much more variety show but it worked. For pure entertainment value, it was arguably better than LaBelle’s choir. I thought about it and have to give it to Nick as the favorite of the night, just barely edging out Patti LaBelle’s team.
2- Team LaBelle’s “I’ll Stand By You.” (The Pretenders) (Below) Ah… Carrie Underwood’s song. Again, this choir rocked, this time with a ballad. It’s the closest to a traditional choir in its makeup and choreography. The harmonies were crisp and wondrous, the lead singer just adequate. Seriously, Jennifer Hudson, LaKisha Jones, LaToya London, Fantasia or Tamyra Gray could blow her away. If her vocals were just a wee better, I would have placed them at No. 1 easily.
3- Team Bolton’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” (Diana Ross)(below) This is a much smarter song choice, a crowd pleaser. The choreography was lame (raise your hands when you say “high” and point downward for the word “low”) and the rendition very conventional but the choir showed plenty of energy in a Vegas-y sort of way. It was marginally better than Team Shelton.
4- Team Shelton’s “Takin’ it to the Streets.” (The Doobie Brothers) Ah… Taylor Hicks’ song. One of the male singers in the second verse was really offkey. This felt more like a skit from “Fame.” It was very loose and very un-choir like. I can’t say the harmonies were especially great but it’s hard to mess with that catchy chorus.
I say Team Shelton goes home tomorrow.
And to get in the Christmas spirit, here’s Kellie Pickler warbling “Santa Baby” on the “Today” show from djSlim:
I also came across this rather sad news report about Kellie and her estranged mom, the source of the song “I Wonder.”

Justin....and you're surprised because.........?
On to the choirs. Rodney, you and I are in almost perfect agreement.
1. Team Lachey...at last...A Choir. Nick focused on the WHOLE group rather than the soloist and we got to hear voices blending.....this IS a choir competition, not a soloist competition.
2. Team Bolton....because he blended his soloist(and the guy was terrific) with his choir...it was a group effort and very well done.
3. Team LaBelle.....this was a solo performance with a background choir.......Clash of the CHOIRS...not Clash of the Soloists.
4. Team Shelton...it just wasn't very good.

Yes, Deidre, I listened to the lead male on Bolton's song and he was excellent.

Good morning.
OK, I tried to watch the choir show again last night. I think everything deserves a second chance. I just can't get into it. I think it maybe, as Rodney has pointed out, the lack of real judging. This contest is not as much about the choirs as it is about the celebrities leading the choirs. I still like the idea of the money going to charity but the show still stinks.
About the Spears girl being pregnant, so what, big deal and who gives a damn. There are probably a thousand pregnant 16 year olds in the Atlanta area alone. Hardly an achievement to be proud of.
Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 8:13AM EST
Good morning bloggers!
I agree with War Eagle that the lack of real judges, not just the other contestants, hurts the show but, since the whole thing is for charity, they're probably trying to save money.
DJ, welcome to our little world!
On the Spears teen pregnancy...my source in Hollywood says the talk there is about the baby-daddy...he's 19 and in danger of being jailed because the age of consent in CA is 18. I find that hard to believe. However, Miss younger Spears works for Nicklelodeon and I really don't see this going over too well with them.

Good mornin' y'all!
I saw a little bit last night, I just can't really get into it that much...not sure why. But I do like Team Lachey. I enjoy the review with all the Idol references. :)
As far as Jamie Lynn Spears, what do you expect? She's a Spears...that about sums it up these days.
And, D, "source in Hollywood." Sounds like you're very well connected! :)
Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 8:42AM EST
kellyfan...my 'source' is my son who works in the industry...he hears the rumors about 10 minutes before we do! :-)
Posted by: kellyfan on December 19, 2007 8:54AM EST
LOL, well, that's great...and I had no idea about that part. So thanks for sharing. :)
I really don't see her staying on that kid's show. You know, maybe this is how the Miley Cyrus pregnancy rumor started...someone got them confused? In any event, where is her mother during all this?
Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 9:04AM EST
LOL!!!! where has 'Mrs Spears' been for the last 20 years???? I'd say her mothering skills leave a lot to be desired. It certainly proves one thing...you don't have to be poor to be trash!
I think the funniest thing is the quote that Jaime Lynn and her 'longtime' boyfriend are expecting. 'Longtime"...she's 16......how can he be 'longtime'????
Posted by: on December 19, 2007 9:10AM EST
On the Jaime Lynn thing, I blame her mom. she has not raised these girls right. She let them have too much feedom, and with money and freedom there is room for a disaster. It;s such a shame though, she is so pretty and was the star of her own show, kinda reminds me of Lisa Bonet, Bill Cosby told her not to get married, she married Lenny Kravitz anyway and lost her show.
Posted by: War Eagle on December 19, 2007 9:13AM EST
You might be trailer trash if...
...somebody hollers "Hoe Down" and your pregnant 16-year old sister hits the floor.
Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 9:19AM EST
Shaun...my bet is the mom let's them do anything they want as long as she gets a percentage of their earnings! I can't even imagine how you let your kids live like they're living...but then, how old was Britney when she was shacking up with Justin Timberlake? At least one person in that twosome was responsible.
War Eagle....LOL!!!!

Oooooouch!!!!! WE.....bad bad!!!!
(but funny!)
morning all...i missed the Shelton choir, had to run the kid to town ... forgot to set the dvr :-( ... i LIKE Blake Shelton, he's funny, and he's a lot of fun on the Nashville Star panel.... hate to see him go, but it'd not be very surprising in light of his TOTAL lack of experience in that industry, LOL... still love the brain picking in the auditions *smirk*
anywho, busy busy today, so i'll stop by when i can... btw, i'm in agreement with deirdre.... this is NOT a soloist competition, by gum, less solos (unless it's like in some choirs where the soloists switch off to 5 or 6 people during a song...sort of like sister act, lol) get more of the whole choir involved...
sort of like, in NGAB, the bands that could show off more members during a song made it to the top... not just a front man and some back up instrumentalists :-)
Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 9:28AM EST
The thing I like about Blake Shelton is his sense of humor...the line about throwing up a little on Michael Bolton's shoes was very funny! I look forward to his commentary cuz it's not the standard "that was great".while he doesn't exactly offer any criticism, he does make what he has to say interesting.

Good morning Eagle.

So what does everyone think about this?
ATLANTA (AP) - Bill Parcells could become the Atlanta Falcons' vice president of football operations, a role that would put him in charge of finding the team's next coach.
Parcells is considering an offer to join the team's front office, a person familiar with the negotiations said on condition of anonymity because talks were ongoing. The New York Daily News reported Wednesday that Parcells is on the verge of accepting the job, with only a few minor details to be worked out. In a story on its Web site, the paper said a deal could be completed later in the day with Falcons owner Arthur Blank.
"I think I probably will do it," Parcells said. "The job description is to be the football operations overseer. We still have a little work to do, but I don't think it's anything major. I don't expect any real deal-breaker. I don't think there will be any major hangups."
Posted by: flat screen on December 19, 2007 9:48AM EST
WE.....How old's the man????...80?....ANOTHER FALCON FLOP MOVE!!!!!The curse of Mike Vick!!!
I watched Choirs last night and wish it were more like church choirs or professional choirs - not one big sing-along with lead singers.
I think Parcells being the VP would be a great thing and hope he comes in.
We told our daughter last night that she was definitely getting a "baby sister" and she got a big smile on her face and got excited. So, we are very happy!

Amy, she'll be happy right up to the first time her little sister grabs one of her toys...then reality starts to set in! :-)

Reasons The 80's Were A Cooler Time To Grow Up Than The 90's
10) MTV actually played videos in the 80's.
9) There were only one kind of Nike tennis shoes (white with a red swish), and they didn't cost $125.
8) A comb in your back pocket is more practical and less painful than a ring through your nose.
7) In the 80's playing video games actually meant going out to DO something.
6) In the 80's, when you were out partying, you didn't have to worry about your Mom calling you on your cell.
5) In the 80s we didn't have to worry about getting our heads blown off at school -- unless you put a whole pack of Pop Rocks in your mouth and drank a coke.
4) Debbie Gibson vs. Britney Spears. New Kids on the Block vs. NSync. New Edition vs. Hanson. OK, that one's a draw.
3) In the early 80's there were kids in your high school who could BUY ALCOHOL LEGALLY.
2) Feathered hair was easier to care for than dreadlocks.
1) In the 80's you didn't have to worry about your pants falling down all the time.

Why not just blame Global warming on Michael Vick too, geez!
Posted by: War Eagle on December 19, 2007 10:36AM EST
I hear ya Shaun. Vick is gone. What happens from this point forward can't be blamed on him. He made mistakes and is paying for it. From a football point of view it needs to be looked at the same as if he had a career ending injury. He is not there so the team and the fans need to accept the fact that one man did not make this team. This team would have sucked with or without Vick. They got a lot of work to do.
Posted by: kellyfan on December 19, 2007 10:40AM EST
WE, you are cracking me up today! Loved the 80s...(what I can remember...LOL)
I agree with y'all about the mom. Like I was telling a co-worker, and we wonder why Britney's such a crappy mom? Not excusing her behavior, but apple doesn't fall far from the tree...
Shaun, LOL, I was gonna blame him for the Mitchell Report! (Kidding!)
As far as Bill Parcells, if he's a miracle worker, WELCOME! You know, everyone had such high hopes when Blank bought the Falcons, but have we really seen that big an improvement? I mean, really?
Posted by: War Eagle on December 19, 2007 10:46AM EST
Kelly, I am a product of the 80's. I graduated high school in 1989 so my entire teenage life was spent in the 80's. I lived it all, parachute pants, swatches, guess jeans, kangaroo tennis shoes, the Michael Jackson zipper jacket, 15" woffers that you could hear for about a mile before you ever saw my car. Good Times
Posted by: linnykat on December 19, 2007 10:47AM EST
Ditto on Vick. He DID have a potentially career-ending injury.... to his JUDGMENT, lol. But it's history now, so we move on. Not that Atlanta's had many years of greatness, in reality. Hopefully some new blood might help. I really thought young McKay might do the trick, but evidently he's not **strong** enough to move mountains!!! Parcells definitely has that going for him, so maybe, just MAYbe...
speaking of history.... how to feel REALLY old? Have your 22 year old son tell you that his American History class in college is studying the '60s and '70s .... the 1960s and 70s that is..... and it's not just studying it.... it's part of the history book..... gawd.... gimme a wheelchair, someone, or at least a walker!!! groan
Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 10:52AM EST
LOL, linny! We boomers need to straighten out people's perception of 'old'.
I just got back from my first errand of the day and enjoyed the lovely sounds of Karen Carpenter singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. What a l wonderful voice that girl had....dulcet and soothing. I always need soothing at this time of year so it's either Karen's singing or a tall Grey Goose and tonic!
Posted by: War Eagle on December 19, 2007 10:54AM EST
I know what you mean Linny. In my speech class we had to speak about our first day of high school.
First of all I can't remember my first day of high school. Too long ago, and then i got laughed at because half of the class wasn't even born when I started high school.
A few of them even went to school with my daughter!!!!
Posted by: War Eagle on December 19, 2007 10:55AM EST
D, you can keep the Karen but I will help you out with the Grey Goose

Posted by: Deirdre on December 19, 2007 10:57AM EST
That's what I like to hear, War Eagle!!!! (the Grey Goose part, not the high school part)
How did that final speech go?
Posted by: linnykat on December 19, 2007 10:59AM EST
But i think the point is, to be fair, and you all know i try to be fair even when i don't WANT to.... Michael Vick's situation and his on-going behavior, and his continuing arrogance in the face of sometime-y performance (like the little girl with the curl, when he was good he was very very good, but...when he was bad...), then the criminal element piled on top.... certainly did NOT do the reputation, atmosphere, attitude, confidence, or status of the Atlanta Falcons any good.
While he's not the CAUSE of all their problems, he's like a focus ON the problems, a vivid, unmistakeable, ugly blemish on the face of the team.... can a team recover from such a blemish...hell yes. we are not the ONLY team to have someone act in a thuggish or irresponsible or even criminal way. Murder? Assault? Drugs? Drinking/Drug problems? Plain ol' dirty mouths? widespread enough that we don't go a year anymore without hearing a lot of negative reports on football (and baseball and basketball and .... so on and so on) players...
I no longer consider sports stars to be role models. Sure there are a few.... and they should be well-recognized and lauded for what they do and who they are, not only in sports but in life.... look at Warrick Dunn, for example. HE deserves accolades for his prowess on the field AND in the community. But too many have been fed big lines and big lies about their *power*... and let it get to their head well before any sense of propriety or judgment managed to sink in.
bleh...same with politicians if you ask me, tho, and entertainers (giving more credit than some are due) LOL!!!
ok, i'm out of here for a while, tons of *bleh* copying to do for depositions tomorrow.... see you this afternoon!!!

The final speech went well. I really got alot out of this class. I had a teacher that actually cared about trying to improve our speaking skills. I wish all my teachers cared as much as she did. Sad to say but I feel like some are doing it just for a check.
Grades haven't been posted yet but it will be a high B or an A.
Anyway I survived Public Speaking 191!!!!

AmyG.... the only time of my life i think i'd truly like to go back to, believe it or not, is any one of my pregnancies, LOL.... i was healthier, happier, and just in general felt good about things during those various periods of time!!! there are others, but....
i think if i'd been rich (or hubby had been rich) i might have had a kid every 2 years.... being a MOTHER i'm good at (WATCH IT!!!! Noooo comments) But being a Mommy.... i needed help a LOT with the parenting thing, lol...

Anyone hear about this?
DANBURY, Connecticut (AP) -- Santa Claus says that a woman who sat on his lap was naughty, not nice.
A Santa at the Danbury Fair mall said the woman groped him.
"The security officer at the mall said Santa Claus has been sexually assaulted," police Detective Lt. Thomas Michael said of the weekend complaint.
Sandrama Lamy, 33, of Danbury, was charged with sexual assault and breach of peace. She was released on a promise to appear in court on January 3.
Police quickly found and identified Lamy because the woman was described as being on crutches, said Capt. Bob Myles.
A call seeking comment from Lamy was answered by a recording Tuesday morning. A woman later called back and said: "It's a false report and I don't have any idea."
Police did not give the name of the disconcerted Santa, but they said he is 65 and felt badly because children were waiting to see him. "He was apparently shocked and embarrassed by the whole incident," Myles said.
A man who teaches hundreds of prospective Santas a year -- "Santa Tim" Connaghan, president of RealSantas.com -- said he's never heard of a similar incident, though it's not unusual for adults to want to pose with Santa.
"I've had some very nice ladies sit on my lap," said Connaghan, who did not train the Danbury Fair Santa. "Once in a while they'll say 'I hope Mrs. Claus isn't going to be upset.' You have to be discreet and kind and say 'Oh no, she'll be OK. You can sit here, but only for one photo."'
OK, All I want to know is where do I sign up to be a santa. I welcome gropping.

Deirdre, he is much better, he had been so sick last week, and of course my wife was traveling, so I was at Emory ER last week til 4am. His O2 was real low, so they were considering admitting him but it came back up to 100%... God is good. He had been running a high temp too, he is now on a different antibiotic and hopefully this one will keep the fever away. Linny, i know and I love you too, we will have to disagree on the Vick thing though...

I know lots of folks have been calling them the Florida State Criminoles for years .... you'dathunk someone might have caught on by now, right? apparently not! *shaking head*
Shaun, I don't think we so much disagree.... i don't blame Vick for the falcons' woes.... i just think because of the nature of HIS activities and HIS visibility (by his own choice sometimes) he put the team in the spotlight more than some OTHER athletes who've been equally ummmm errrrr let's say 'disingenuous' regarding their personal choices (and those choices being made public). When he played well, there was truly nothing more exciting than watching him...and the team because of him... .but when he wasn't on top of his game, or when he was off the field being "himself" .... he seemed to attract a lot of attention in negative ways, is all i'm saying....NOT that he was one little teeny bit WORSE than soooooooooo many others!
just more visible.

On Christmas morning, a cop on horseback is sitting at a traffic light, and next to him is a kid on his shiny new bike. The cop says to the kid, "Nice bike you got there. Did Santa bring that to you?" The kid says, "Yeah." The cop says, "Well, next year tell Santa to put a tail light on that bike." The cop then proceeds to issue the kid a $20.00 bicycle safety violation ticket. The kid takes the ticket and before he rides off says, "By the way, that's a nice horse you got there. Did Santa bring that to you?" Humoring the kid, the cop says, "Yeah, he sure did." The kid says, "Well, next year tell Santa to put the di*k underneath the horse, instead of on top."

A Cajun walks into a bar with a pet alligator by his side. He puts the alligator up on the bar. He turns to the astonished patrons. I'll make you a deal. I'll open this alligator's mouth and place my manhood inside. Then, the gator will close his mouth for one minute. Then, he'll open his mouthand I'll remove my unit unscathed.
In return for witnessing this spectacle, each of you will buy me a drink." The crowd murmured their approval. The man stood up on the bar, dropped his trousers, and placed his Johnson and related parts in the alligator's open mouth.
The gator closed his mouth as the crowd gasped. After a minute, the man grabbed a beer bottle and smacked the alligator hard on the top of its head. The gator opened his mouth and the man removed his genitals unscathed as promised.
The crowd cheered, and the first of his free drinks were delivered. The man stood up again and made another offer. "I'll pay anyone $100 who's willing to give it a try."
A hush fell over the crowd. After a while, a hand went up in the back of the bar. A blonde woman timidly
spoke up..........
"I'll try it.
Just don't hit me so hard
with the beer bottle!"

Wow I guess i was thinking too hard about Waters. I got a chance to see Floyd back in 1988 I think. Awsome show. I think I still have a little buzz from that night.
Personally I don't think that Parcells would want to take on the task of trying to fix the ship wreck known as the Falcons. Who would?

Eagle...All Atlanta needs is another mike vick type player to fill the dome back up...a team that might make the playoffs 1 out of every 5 years!!Atalnta will never be big time in any sport!!sad fact, but true.

Yea Flats, Vick did put butts in the seats. I posted several months back that the falcons only had 2 winning seasons the 7 years that Vick was with the team so apparantly it didn't matter if the team was good or not.
If anyone gives a crap I just checked my grades and I aced all my classes including Public Speaking.
I'm going to go get a nice cold Bud Light. I think I deserve one or two or, well you know
