11/18: Kellie Pickler 5th grader recap, Elliott Yamin's "One Word" video
By: Rodney Ho | November 18, 2007, 12:25AM EST

If you missed Kellie Thursday night, hulu.com offers up the entire episode of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”. This became the highest rated “5th Grader” episode this fall.

“I actually tried to study,” she said, with Kat McPhee, the night before. Donations went to the American Red Cross and organizations that help grandparents who raised grandkics (just like her!) She confessed she is “not smarter than a 5th grader” before her first question.

Her most embarrassing moment in school. She “cut the cheese” in class in second grade and everyone laughed at her. Awww…

She was adorable as always, using her story about a meeting of a French dude saying “bonjour” to help her get one question and her knowledge of the Road Runner(“Beep-beep!”) to get another. She struggled to know whether a piccolo is a woodwind, strings or percussion. Her logic included thinking that piccolo is percussion because they have the same first letter. Oops. Thank goodness she was saved by Olivia. (I”m going to get a swirly after class. That’s where they dip your head in the commode and they flush your head so you get a swirly.”)

Oh, and she thought Europe is a country. “I don’t think France is a country,” she noted. She has no clue what country Budapest is in but fortunately, Nathan knew “Hungary” was a country. “Is that a country? Never heard of it!” she said.

After being asked which of the following, Johns Hopkins, Franklin Pierce or Brigham Young, was a U.S. president, she was stumped. “I feel like an idiot right now,” she said. “Waiting for an answer from you is kind of like being in a checkout line behind an old woman with coupons,” Foxworthy cracked. She picked Pierce because her ears are pierced and her last name starts with P, too. This is what we will call from now on “Pickler logic.” That last one got her to $50,000.

The $100,000 question: “How many canine teeth are in a typical adult human mouth?” She actually got it right (four) but chose to walk away.

And here’s a link to the new Elliott Yamin “One Word” video.. One word for the video gal’s sheer red dress: amazing!

...So is Fantasia really pregnant to a rapper? ... or was that just a joke I don't understand?

Rodney...your comment section in Radio and TV is closed so I'll ask you here. Did you see this week's The Office? I won't go into detail if you haven't seen it yet but it's the first episode that actually made me feel like crying. For Michael!

Justin...perhaps pregnant by the rapper(smiles)well, time will certainly tell unless she gets rid of the baby. What's with these extra short term relationships where they're not only not practicing "safe" sex....but steadily getting pregnant(for example:MB and Eddie Murphy....at what point is the actual decision made as to whether "this is a relationship or a get-together????

Deidre--what's really sad is that's the last fresh "Office" ep we'll be seeing for a loong time. And yes, poor Michael was being beat up so badly (even if it was his own fault to a degree), you almost had to feel sorry for him. Almost. I can't believe Jan wasn't more peeved that he ended up siding with his own company and blowing her case.

Jan and Michael seem resolved to be stuck with each other. She lost the suit so she has no where else to go and Michael always manages to rationalize things to the way he wants to see them. If he hadn't been so nasty to Toby, I would have really been upset for him but they always find a way to show Michael's humanity(and Steve Carell is brilliant at that) while never letting us forget what a jerk he is. Brilliant show! I'm really going to miss it.

My older boy said he heard that a number of shows on NBC have been permanently canceled. Have you heard anything about that?

Deidre, no NBC shows have been cancelled. In fact, under normal circumstances, shows such as CBS's "Cane," ABC's "Cavemen" and NBC's "Life" might have been cancelled already given how poorly they've done. And NBC's "Bionic Woman" has had the fine distinction of losing ratings every week since it started. But given the writers' strike, the networks have decided to air every original scripted show they have in their inventory no matter how poorly they're doing. And that also means "The Next Great American Band" will survive no matter how badly the ratings are. (And they were no better this past Friday.)

Officially, the only two shows taken off the sked this fall have been the CW's "Online Nation," a compilation of online videos, and Fox's "Nashville," a "Hills"-like show featuring country artists.

Thanks for the answer, Rodney. Brian must have heard one of the gazillion rumors going around!
