10/18: Carrie Underwood's promo blitz
By: Rodney Ho | October 17, 2007, 7:16PM EST
Can Carrie evade the sophomore slump like Kelly Clarkson did with her upcoming “Carnival Ride”? Given how big her first CD was, it’s highly unlikely she’d be able to break 6 million in sales again. Her first single “So Small” is a top 10 country hit but it’s no “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” She does look great on the cover:

Want to hear 30 second snippets of songs from the CD? Check it out here..
Carrie has also been recently spotted with “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford.
And this quote from “Seventeen” magazine:
“It bugs me that because I’m a blonde from Oklahoma who sings country music, people think I’m stupid. People don’t give us Oklahomans credit. We don’t ride around in covered wagons! We have indoor plumbing. We’re smart, good people. I won’t say I’m business savvy, exactly, but I have common sense.”
In that article, she also denied ever having a real relationship with QB Tony Romo. If you say so.
And Ken Barnes at “Idol Chatter” has a list of Carrie’s numerous TV appearances. These include “GMA” on October 23, “Regis” on the 24th, “CBS Early Show” on the 26th, Leno on the 29th, “Ellen” on Nov. 5 and Letterman on Nov. 13. Phew!
Bo Bice’s “See the Light” coincidentally hits Wal-Mart the same day as Carrie’s. He is doing a small radio tour but his spotlight has dimmed to the point he won’t be showing up on “Ellen” or “Regis & Kelly” anytime soon. Sorry, Bo fans!

Rodney, didn't Bo tell you that he's not playing in that world anymore? I thought he tried to make it clear. How many southern rock fans are watching Ellen? C'mon!

Give SS more time--Wasted and JTTW took the long road to the top. And Carrie likely won't sell 6M, but she'll sell 3-4M at least.

I don't know what dimmed lights you are talking about but this beautiful soul has always been grateful for everything he now has and sure has that light from up there shining on him all the time. Check this out:

Carrie will probably do okay. She's in the country market, isn't she. I'm sure they'll continue to promote, promote, promote.
Good Morning everyone.

Morning Nana. Yes, country fans are the most loyal (tell that to the dixie chicks) they will support Carrie even if she is yodeling on every song. Carrie looks fantastic! Does Carrie live in Nashville?
|
|
Posted by: mynana on October 18, 2007 7:53AM EST
I don't know if she lives in the Nash or not. But in country, I think it's more about the song choice than any other. Any songs about Jesus and cheating will do big. The two I've heard - Jesus and Cheats - to me are song, if given to any artists, would have made it big, IMO.

Worst season of Idol IMO.

I didn't like the year Fantasia won. Just never got passed her bouncing around on the stage when she sang. There was just something about her that turned me off - still does. Only year I didn't vote.
|
|
Posted by: shay on October 18, 2007 8:35AM EST
This past season was dull. Melinda should have won, hands down. No one could sing better than that girl, and to come in third was a travesty. Besides, I hated the audition rounds. I think I enjoyed the Reuben/Clay season the best followed by Fantasia/Diana and then Taylor/Katherine (hated the finale).

Good Morning All!! I had to return to the office today.
Had a great week off though.

|
Posted by: Deirdre on October 18, 2007 8:43AM EST
Morning! My favorite season was Ruben/Clay followed by Taylor/Kat and then Kelly/Justin. Just the quality of the top 10/12 alone during those seasons was great. I agree that Melinda should have won but I'm not sure she'd be doing any better than Jordin. Too shy and unassuming. I liked the Carrie/Bo season as well but the number of really good singers during that season was smaller.....and yes, I count Constantine as one of the really good ones! :-)
|
|
Posted by: mynana on October 18, 2007 8:46AM EST
I stopped watching the year of Fantasia, when Jennifer Hudson and Latoya London left the show. To me, that was who I wanted in the final 2. They could both really belt it out.
I liked the Taylor year, Kelly year. The Reuben/Clay year was okay.
|
|
Posted by: on October 18, 2007 8:47AM EST
I loved the Fantasia year, you had sooo much talent, Latoya London, J Hudson, Jasmaine Trios, Leah Labelle, and others.
|
|
Posted by: shay on October 18, 2007 8:48AM EST
I don't think Melinda would be doing much better either. In fact, I don't have high hopes for any of the idol winners. It's hard to break them away from idol and make them solo artists. I think that's what I didn't like about the Carrie/Bo season. It lacked talent in the top 12. I liked Constantine over Bo, so when he was booted, I stopped watching. Vonzell was mediocre and could have been found on any street corner singer over a heated garbage can. Other than those 4, I can't remember anyone else from that season. Was that the season Anwar and Nadia were on?
|
|
Posted by: shay on October 18, 2007 8:49AM EST
Shaun, you lost me after J Hudson.
|
|
Posted by: shay on October 18, 2007 8:53AM EST
And to be honest, Diana Degarmo only impressed me on ONE song and that was the song that landed her in the top 12. It was an upbeat song... can't remember the name. I keep singing it in my head. She bored me the rest of the season. Kat had one song that interested me, SOTR. The rest was just o.k.
|
|
GOOD MORNING ALL..CARRIE LOOKS REAL GOOD IN THAT PICTURE!SHE REALLY HAS DONE REAL WELL DOING HER THANG OUT THERE.

Just sqww the clip of Ellen. I can't believe she is making such a fuss over a dog! I mean , I could understand if someone took away her pussy...her being such a cat lover and all.
Yo,
I didn't feel like I could let this comment go unchallenged.....I feel you must've forgotten that already did take Ellen's pussy away!

Morning. Or Leah Labelle. WTH??? I think Carrie will do well. She may not sell 6M, but she'll do very well. I think she could potentially be the best selling AI winner of all time, especially if Kelly decides she wants to step away from the music that made her popular. The best season to me was Season 3 followed by Seasons 1, 2, 5, 6, and then 4.

Y'all! Are horrible...and I think Ellen's moved on from that loss. ;)
Anyway! My name says it all: Kelly's season was to me, by far, the best. It was new and exciting. I also really liked Carrie's season, and then...Clay and Ruben. Least favorite was probably Fantasia/Diana.

Deirdre, I loved Jasmaine, her flowers each week were freshly picked for that performance. How many people go that far out to entertain us? She was the epidome of a performer.... And Leah dazzled us each week with her song choice, she was incredible! Her statuette (sp) figure showed us she worked out vigiourly before each show... I mean come on, didnt you feel the majic?

I get the "pleasure" of seeing her open for Rascal Flatts tomorrow....still searching for a calamari t-shirt. Any ideas?

Alot of rumor has been since Kelly has signed with Narvel Blackstock (Reba McEntire's husband) that she will put out a country album. She has stated before that she grew up with country and loves country music. When she appeared with Reba back in June at CMA Musicfest she was received very well. If she did put out a country album, it might outsell Carrie (and ya'll know I am a BIG Carrie fan).

Posted by: linnykat on October 18, 2007 9:16AM EST
morning blawgpounders... speaking of melinda, have you seen her Zaxby's commercial? Evander does one too, allong with Bobby Allison, the race driver. Those are the only 3 celebs i remember at the moment in the new line of "you put thought into it so we try to make it worthy" commercials. Don't know who does Z's ads, but they're pretty good, from a success standpoint.
Isn't that outfit that Carrie has on on the album cover the same she wore in an appearance ... i THINK on AI, actually. the jeans with the gauzy thing over?
I think she'll do well, perhaps as Rodney says not 6 mil but, she'll stay steady. I like the gal! Tho' i was and am a total Bo fan, too. I think for him it turned out well that he did NOT win, what with his physical ailments that followed the next year...
ok, off to work! see ya! keep cool, calm and collectively awesome, gang!

Good morning to my blawgpound friends!
So Carrie says she didn't have a "real" relationship with Romo. What? Was it just a series of late night booty calls? I'm just asking...
|
|
Posted by: on October 18, 2007 9:18AM EST
kelly is flip flopping. Why Country now? She is gonna anger a lot of fans, the same ones who bought 9 million copies! I think her career is just about over, the country fans may accept her, but she can never come back to pop. JMO.

I had a great week off. Went to Pole Night Qualifying last Thursday. The crash cars pulling the trailers had me laughing so hard I was almost in tears.
We went to the race Saturday. Went very early and done some tailgating. Didn't like the outcome but it was a good race.
Went to the NC State Fair on Tuesday with my parents and we finalized the house plans last night. I had to come back to work to get some rest.

Carla, what floor are you on (i know, you can't answer that right now) ... the worst ever for me was when i was on the 34th floor of what used to be the First National Bank of Atlanta Tower (right at 5 points downtown)....argh that was ROUGH!

Good morning all. My favorite season was Carrie/Bo followed by Taylor/Daughtry-not Kat. Carrie will out sell every AI artist hands down because she is one of the top 5 in her genre and will be around for a long time IMO. I am looking forward to the Next Great American Band show. I think it starts this Friday.

Oh yeah, Good Morning Everyone!

Because of the climate of political correctness now pervading America, Kentuckians, Tennesseans and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as "HILLBILLIES."
You must now refer to them as APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS .
And furthermore
HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT WOMEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT:
1 She is not a "BABE" or a "CHICK" - She is a
" BREASTED AMERICAN."
2. She is not "EASY" - She is
"HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE."
3. She is not a "DUMB BLONDE" - She is a
"LIGHT-HAIRED DETOUR OFF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY."
4. She has not "BEEN AROUND" -
She is a "PREVIOUSLY-ENJOYED COMPANION."
5 She does not "NAG" you -
She becomes "VERBALLY REPETITIVE."
6. She is not a "TWO-BIT HOOKER" -
She is a "LOW COST PROVIDER."
HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT MEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT:
1. He does not have a "BEER GUT" -
He has developed a "LIQUID GRAIN STORAGE FACILITY."
2. He is not a "BAD DANCER" -
He is "OVERLY CAUCASIAN."
3. He does not "GET LOST ALL THE TIME" -
He "INVESTIGATES ALTERNATIVE DESTINATIONS."
4. He is not "BALDING" -
He is in "FOLLICLE REGRESSION."
5. He does not act like a "TOTAL ASS" -
He develops a case of "RECTAL-CRANIAL INVERSION."
6. It's not his "CRACK" you see hanging out of his pants -
It's "REAR CLEAVAGE."

Thanks, RC...I will.
Fire drills suck. We just had one a few weeks ago, I am on the 24th floor! At least our office is moving this weekend and I'll be on the 7th floor!
I worry about Kelly's choices sometimes, but she can sing pretty much every genre. So I guess it's more about her fanbase.

Good morning everyone... Sounds like you had a great time Mitch. You were missed. Personally, I hope Kelly sticks with her Power Pop. Since most of you know, I am not a fan of country music. My favorite season was probably season 2 with Ruben and Clay. I would say season 1, but Justin was just awful imo. Oh well, the work monster rears it's ugly head. Oh yeah, hope the Indians win tonight.

Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all.
One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.
As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister noticed a cute-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom!
When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.
"Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?" pointing to the bowl.
"Oh, yes," she replied, "Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the Park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter."

Shaun....the fresh flower Jasmine put in her hair every week did absolutely nothing for her voice! :-)
I admit to being a big Chris Daughtry fan during season 5. I thought his voice and stage presence were the best that year. I voted for him often and believe he might have won if not for his determination to bring hard rock to Idol! He turned off a lot of people with his song choices. Kat had those people wrapped around her little finger with her song choices. Her voice was very good and there was, I believe, a backlash from the hate that was thrown at her on the blogs.
If it had been a Taylor/Chris finale, my money would have been on Chris.

An Irish farmer walking through his field, notices a man drinking out of a pond.
The Irish farmer shouted: "Paid a yfed a dwr, maer gwerthin wedi cachu un a for." Which in Gaelic means: "Don't drink the water the cows have shit in it."
The man shouts back: "I'm a muslim, I don't understand. Please speak in English."

Eve, they sucked last year and sucked this year as well. They need to just add a few more hip hop categories to the regular BET awards and call it a day. They don't need separate awards. Didn't someone win for like "biggest baller" or something stupid like that? WTH does that have to do with music.

Jex -- we worked for the bank's counsel... Hansell Post ... (*which i can say because it is no longer in existence) ... we were on 32, 33, and 34, then moved sometime in the late 80s over to the new portman building at the other end of downtown, not sure what they called that building, the one with the controversial statue in front of the nearly nude woman....
what part of First Atlanta did you work for??? heck! you might have been "my personal banker" ... whatever THAT meant!!!

seems we've seen this before? I thought it was cute anyway.............
Ed was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really mad. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds, AND IT BETTER BE THERE."
The next morning, Ed got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window, and sure enough, there was a medium-sized gift-wrapped box in the middle of the driveway.
Confused, the wife put on her robe, ran out to the driveway, and brought the box back into the house. She opened it and found a brand-new bathroom scale.
Funeral services for Ed have been scheduled for Friday.

A woman visited her plastic surgeon who told her about a new procedure called "The Knob," where a small knob is placed at the top of the woman's head and could be turned to tighten up her skin and produce the effect of a brand new face-lift. Of course, the woman wanted "The Knob."
Over the course of the years, the woman tightened the knob, and the effects were wonderful, the woman remained young looking and vibrant. After fifteen years, the woman returned to the surgeon with two problems.
"All these years, everything has been working just fine. I've had to turn the knob many times and I've always loved the results. But now I've developed two annoying problems:
First, I have these terrible bags under my eyes and the knob won't get rid of them."
The doctor looked at her closely and said, "Those aren't bags, those are your breasts."
She said, "Well, I guess there's no point in asking about the goatee."

Denzel Washington, and Brooks Army Medical Center
Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims. There are some buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled most of the time.
While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.
The question I have is why does:
Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America trash and Denzel Washington's Patriotism doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San Antonio?

The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again asked readers to >>> take >>> any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or >>> changing >>> one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are this year's winners. >>> Read them carefully. Each is an artificial word with only one letter >>> altered to form a real word. Some are terrifically innovative: >>> >>> 1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you >>> realize it was your money to start with. >>> >>> 2. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly. >>> >>> 3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people, that stops >>> bright >>> ideas from penetrating. The Bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little >>> sign >>> of breaking down in the near future. >>> >>> 4. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the >>> subject >>> financially impotent for an indefinite period of time. >>> >>> 5. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high. >>> >>> 6. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person >>> who >>> doesn't get it. >>> >>> 7.Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late. >>> >>> 8. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness. >>> >>> 9. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.) >>> >>> 10. Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these >>> really >>> bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a >>> serious bummer. >>> >>> 11. Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day >>> consuming >>> only things that are good for you. >>> >>> 12. Glibido All talk and no action. >>> >>> 13. Dopeler Effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when >>> they >>> come at you rapidly. >>> >>> 14. Arachnoleptic Fit(n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've >>> accidentally walked through a spider web. >>> >>> 15. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your >>> bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out. >>> >>> 16. Mitch...I heard that Denzel Washington story last year. He has quietly been building facilities for the returning soldiers for awhile now. He does not advertise it but he will answers questions about it occasionally. The Sean Penns of the world could learn a lesson from Mr Washington!

I do admire what he is doing. I strongly feel that regardless of how you feel about the war you can still support the soldiers. This speaks very highly of Denzel's charactor.
