Twitter reacts to rare snowfall in South Georgia with hilarious memes, photos

Coastal Georgia is getting a rare dose of wintry precipitation

Several residents of South Georgia were shocked to see wintry weather Wednesday. The snowfall is part of a brutal system expected to dump much more in places that have not seen any measurable totals in years.

The first snowflakes in Georgia began to fall between Dublin and Savannah shortly before 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

It’s been about 30 years since Savannah has had an inch of snow, and estimated totals are between 2 and 3 inches now just west of downtown Savannah, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. The record, set in February 1968, is 3.6 inches, he said.

That prospect prompted Gov. Nathan Deal to declare a state of emergency through Friday for Chatham County, where Savannah is located, and 27 other counties.

As businesses and schools began to announce closures, many took to social media to share how they were spending the day with hilarious memes, photos and videos.
