A man walking on I-20 westbound was struck and killed by three cars.

A homeless man walking on I-20 westbound Friday evening was hit by three cars before dying from his injuries, Atlanta police said.

The fatal crash happened about 7:30 p.m. near the McDaniel Street exit, Atlanta police Officer Stephanie Brown said.

“We are still gathering details on how he originally entered the roadway,” Brown said.

Police said two of the cars struck the man, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as Curtis Adams, and the third ran over him.

Brown said the 52-year-old did not have a car on the highway at the time of the fatal accident.

All three cars remained on the scene.

Earlier, all I-20 westbound lanes were shut down near the Downtown Connector while police investigated. Lanes reopened about 9:30 p.m.

No other details were released.
