One person was killed and six were injured in a crash that blocked I-20 East before the Downtown Connector for more than 4½ hours Tuesday morning.

Authorities responded to the multi-vehicle collision about 3:30 a.m., where a large bag of marijuana and two guns were recovered, Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police said the driver of an Infinity M35, later identified as 31-year-old Demetrius Cotton of Atlanta, made a U-turn on the interstate and was struck head-on by a Cadillac Escalade and then struck again by a Chevrolet HHR.

The crash left vehicles unrecognizable.

The Cadillac driver, Kyambo Joshua, and the Chevrolet driver, Jerrell Collins, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Atlanta police spokeswoman Lisa Bender said.

The interstate did not reopen until just before 8:10 a.m.

Despite finding drugs and guns at the crash site, Bender said charges have not been filed.

“At this point in our investigation we have not found any evidence linking the found property to any of the involved parties,” Bender said.
