Stonecrest launches digital ad campaign in bid for Amazon

Stonecrest officials plan to make it hard for Amazon to not hear their pitch for the company’s second headquarters.

Stonecrest has hired a Seattle-based company to send targeted digital advertising to Amazon employees in the area, touting the benefits of the Georgia city and its proposal to give land to build the city of Amazon. The city of Amazon would be supported by the taxpayers of Stonecrest.

These ads will show up as people located on Amazon’s campus in Seattle browse the web on computers, tablets or smartphones.

“They can learn first through this innovative digital campaign, which will be targeting only Amazon employees in Seattle, and we want them to follow up with a visit very soon,” Stonecrest Mayor Jason Lary said during Wednesday’s announcement.

The ads will begin running immediately and link to a Stonecrest webpage that further explains the city’s proposal to de-annex 345 acres for the city of Amazon. Founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos can even hold the title of mayor.

Lary told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that public dollars were used on the ad, which cost $3,000.

He said Georgia economic development officials, who hand delivered the pitch to Amazon officials in October, have hinted that site visits could happen around the holidays. Atlanta is a likely stop, but Stonecrest leaders want to make sure they are also on the itinerary.

Atlanta city officials said they have not spent any money marketing their bid to Amazon.
