New information on a federal website allows the general public to find out whether a college or school district is under investigation for discrimination.

This month, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights published on its website a list of institutions and issues under investigation. An agency spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday that this is the first time it has been done.

The website allows users to search by state and by discrimination types. The information is organized under broad categories of discrimination, including race and national origin, sex, disability and age.

The list will be updated monthly, and represents complaints filed rather than confirmed violations of federal antidiscrimmination law.
