Varied thoughts on nation’s agenda

The nation’s transition to a new presidential administration rolls on.

President Donald Trump continues to follow through on an agenda built on campaign promises of undoing Washington’s comfy pattern of business as usual.

Trump’s actions thus far continue to garner both significant support — and steady resistance from opponents.

There are strong international angles of interest around the actions of the new presidential administration. His conversations with world leaders last week, for example, have drawn both support and criticism.

All of which continues to point out that this nation remains markedly divided on issues major, minor and at all points between. There’s little outward sign of this situation easing anytime soon.

Today, we present a selection of guest columns commenting on some of the matters that have made news in recent days. A conservative writer says that Trump’s immigration executive orders are a good start toward making Americans safer, here and elsewhere around the world. An Emory School of Law expert argues that even progressive lawmakers should give Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch a fair, respectful hearing. And a former Congressman says that President Barack Obama’s farewell address has sound points that should resonate with those on both sides of the aisle.
