Marietta guilty of cruelty to widow

Reading “Marietta Pension Saga has a twisted ending,” News, Sept. 8, I conjured up the same scenario happening so easily in a third world country or Russia.. The city of Marietta, Putin-like in its bullying and stomping on human rights, has told Janet Kosper that an inhumane technicality takes precedence over her survival needs and that her husband’s 20 years of loyal service are worthless. And Phillip Goldstein has intransigently abetted the cruelty. If there is a way that I can participate in an effort to get him out of office, I will work wholeheartedly to that end.

I am sending the story to the AARP to publish in their national magazine on the page for “Most Outrageous” violations to seniors. Headline:”Marietta, Ga. is not senior friendly!”

Lame duck sessions a dangerous time

In a few months, millions of Americans will participate in our representative electoral process. Through this process we will send a message to all of our elected representatives, from Washington D.C. to Atlanta. Unlike Atlanta, Washington will still have the chance to pass laws even if many of our national representatives have been defeated or are retiring before the next session.

This “lame duck” period gives Congressional members the ability to pass legislation they might not otherwise consider. For example, in previous lame duck sessions legislators have done everything from give themselves a pay raise to give the auto-manufacturers a bailout worth billions of dollars.

A Republic only works when voters can keep their elected officials accountable. That’s why Congress should leave all spending bills out of the upcoming lame duck session of Congress.
