Democrats must develop better plan

The Democrats have forgotten the “hole law” which states “when in a hole stop digging.” Life is filled with competition. There are winners and losers, and more losers than winners because there is only one first place. Democrats should stop digging and be “good losers.” Good losers are smart. They don’t waste time whining, complaining, making excuses and blaming others. They return home to practice harder, get better players and develop a better game plan before returning to compete and win. Our democracy needs vibrant and serious competing ideas from both political parties. Democrats, you lost, be a good loser and come back stronger.

Good climate change leadership faces facts

The article (“Debate heats up on teaching climate change,” News, June 22), describes how some states urge or require that science teachers share climate theories that dispute the idea that human-caused global warming is happening. It also reports that many science teachers are reacting to the Trump administration’s backpedaling on climate issues by confirming students understand peer review has resulted in overwhelming evidence that climate change caused by humans is verifiable.

My sister-in-law, an experienced outdoor educator, said there is a danger when teaching elementary school kids the facts with scary consequences. They easily overreact. Like her, I agree it is best to include how responsible adults are taking steps to reduce climate change threats. The bipartisan House Climate Solutions Caucus is doing just that. I appreciate their moral leadership that does not ignore the facts. Ask your House representative to join it.
