Writer wrong about Dept. of Energy

A recent letter to the editor provided a seemingly convincing argument for the elimination of the Department of Energy (“Energy Department a massive waste,” Readers Write, Jan. 3). However, the writer’s supporting evidence was dead wrong. First of all, our nation’s percentage of dependence on foreign oil has not increased as claimed but has actually hit a 30-year low. Look it up. Also, the mission of the DOE is much larger than concerning itself with the nation’s dependence on foreign oil. Its primary responsibility is the safe handling of nuclear material for all uses; which due to the lack of incidences appears to be highly successful. Suggesting that the Department of Energy is a massive failure run by a bunch of do-nothings only shows incredible ignorance regarding its purpose and accomplishments. When are we going to stop proliferating lies merely to support our political beliefs? We need to demand the truth in this supposedly post-truth world.

Anti-Trump leftists are just hypocrites

Let me get this straight: members of the Radio City Rockettes are applauded by the left for refusing to appear at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration parties and Michelle Obama’s dress designer refuses to design a dress for Melania Trump. Many musicians and Hollywood actors also refuse to perform or sing during these ceremonies. All the above cite their “personal belief system.”

Perhaps some liberal AJC columnist can explain to us why they applaud the actions of these anti-Trump, anti-conservative and anti-Christian leftists while the left gleefully destroys bakers and florists for following their own personal belief system. Tap dance around the situation all you want but the left reeks of hypocrisy.
