Chase ends in deadly wrong-way crash on I-85

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop Jonathan Drayton Julious Holloway of Newport News, Va.

He led them on a chase, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Holloway had a revoked driver’s license and was wanted on multiple traffic charges.

A fatal wrong-way wreck that shut down part of I-85 for about three hours started when a Virginia man wanted on multiple traffic charges led deputies on a winding chase Friday in Jackson County, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Jonathan Drayton Julious Holloway, 23, of Newport News, was found dead with a revoked driver’s license, a stolen handgun and narcotics in an Audi A4, according to the GSP.

Holloway was not wearing a seat belt.

The incident started when Jackson County sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the Audi Holloway drove about 3:30 a.m.

Holloway, who was southbound on I-85, failed to yield and led deputies on a chase that sent them from the interstate to a highway, the GSP said in a news release.

At one point in the chase, the Audi was heading south on Ga. 11 then looped north.

The car “made several attempts to avoid capture by crossing the median or paved crossovers,” GSP said. The Audi ultimately ended up driving the wrong way down south I-85.

At that point, deputies stopped following the car but later found it crashed head on into a Subaru Crosstrek at mile marker 143, the GSP said.

The driver of the Subaru — Kyle Jeannings Hoose, 31, of Alto — was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with non-life threatening injuries.

A blood test will be conducted on Holloway to determine if he had drugs or alcohol in his system, the GSP said.
