A 14-year-old girl was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for treatment of serious injuries Saturday after being struck by a McDonough police patrol car.
Henry County police Sgt. Joey Smith said the officer was traveling near the intersection of North Ola and Turner Church roads around 1 p.m. when the child exited a driveway on her bicycle and collided with the patrol car.
“The officer could not avoid the accident,” Smith said.
Smith said the officer, who was en route to regular duty, is “very distraught, of course,” but was uninjured.
The Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.
Stabbing leads to SWAT standoff in northeast Atlanta
A domestic dispute led to a stabbing that resulted in a SWAT standoff Saturday morning in northeast Atlanta.
Officers arrested a man who locked himself in an apartment in the 400 block of Lindbergh Place, Atlanta police spokesman Gregory Lyon said.
“The perpetrator is in custody. No shots fired,” Lyon said, adding, “I was told that SWAT deployed tear gas. Medics are checking the suspect out.”
He said the stabbing victim was in stable condition suffering from a wound to the chest. “This stabbing appears to have resulted from a domestic dispute,” Lyon said.
Police had not released the names of the suspect or victim.
