Northside Hospital to pay for Woodstock venue naming rights

Northside Hospital-Cherokee is prepared to pay Woodstock $300,000 to have its name on a new performing arts venue downtown.

The official name of the outdoor concert facility would be Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater, according to a 10-year naming rights agreement between the city and Sandy Springs-based Northside Hospital Inc. The City Council is to take up the contract at its Monday night meeting.

The amphitheater is being built at Main Street and Arnold Mill Road in the Park at City Center. It will have a band shell, grass terraces and a main lawn for more than 7,500 audience members. It originally was to be completed in June, but rain delays pushed that date back to autumn.

A public preview will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 25, a city spokeswoman said. A Halloween Kids Fest is set for 3 to 7 p.m., Oct. 31, and a grand opening celebration and first concert — a free performance by country artist and Woodstock resident Mark Wills and the Thomas Fountain Band — for 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12.

Northside-Cherokee has been a presenting sponsor of the Woodstock Summer Concert Series since 2009.

The Northside Hospital network consists of the original Atlanta campus, which opened in 1970 in what is now Sandy Springs, and facilities in Cherokee and Forsyth counties. Northside-Cherokee was created in 1997 through an agreement involving Northside Hospital Inc. and R.T. Jones Regional Hospital in Canton. A new Northside-Cherokee hospital is to open in 2017 at I-575 and Ga. 20, Canton.
