American Legion to thank Eagle scout
American Legion Post 294 of Powder Springs at 5 p.m. today will rededicate its monument in front of the post home, 3282 Florence Road, Powder Springs.
Eagle Scout Matthew Powell of Boy Scout Troop 1294 will be recognized for his leadership in refurbishing the monument for veterans.

Gingerbread house competition begins
The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center will host its fourth annual Sustainable Gingerbread House Competition and Exhibit with entries accepted beginning Nov. 25.
Designers are asked to create environmentally friendly houses highlighting sustainability and green building design using edible materials.
Awards will be presented during the center’s Green Your Holiday Program at 11 a.m. Dec. 14. Entries will be available for viewing at the GEHC until Jan. 3. Information: www.gwinnettehc.org/.

NAACP to show black military life documentary
In honor of Veterans Day, the Fayette County NAACP is hosting a viewing today of the documentary, “For Love of Liberty.” It chronicles the challenges of African American soldiers, sailors and airmen in all wars. Part one will be shown at 4 p.m. and spans the Revolutionary War to the beginning of World War II. Part 2 begins at about 6:15 and covers World War II through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The program is sponsored by the Georgia Power Co. and is free but donations are accepted. The event will be at the Hampton Inn, 110 Meeting Place in Fayetteville. Details: 770 716-7392.

Roswell cultural and arts guide released
The city of Roswell’s 2013-2014 Arts and Cultural Organizations Directory has been released.
The resource guide contains information about 21 organizations in the city that offer arts and cultural programming.

Forsyth alters voting precincts, locations
The Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations and Elections has approved a plan changing Election Day precinct lines and voting locations, dropping from 25 to 16 precincts. Elections supervisor Barbara Luth says the changes recognize that more than 50 percent of ballots are now cast early. She says that no resident will have to drive more than 10 miles to vote. The alterations become effective with the May 2014 primary.

History Center event spotlights JFK death
The DeKalb History Center will host a lecture Nov. 19 on the assassination and funeral of President John F. Kennedy.
Jennifer Richardson, a retired psychotherapist and former history center board member, will lead the Lunch at Learn, which begins at 11 a.m. at the Old Courthouse on the Square, Decatur.
