Shark attacks Australian surfer on live TV


A surfer miraculously survived a shark attack which was broadcast on live television during a surfing competition in Africa.

Pro surfer Mick Fanning was waiting for a set of waves on his surfboard at Jeffrey's Bay in South Africa when a shark fin appeared next to him. Live television viewers watched as at least one shark can be seen briefly submerging and appearing on the other side of his board. Fanning punched the shark before escaping.

In an interview with Fox Sports, Fanning commented on the ordeal:

"I was just sitting there, I was just about to start moving and then I felt something grab ... get stuck in my leg rope. I instantly just jumped and he kept coming at my board. I was just kicking and screaming. I punched him in the back!"

Fanning escaped the incident without injuries. The World Surf League cancelled the remainder of the event.
