Memphis police said a gun was found in a lake near Walnut, Mississippi. Investigators believe this is the weapon used in Wright’s murder.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Wright was a star basketball player at the University of Memphis. He played in the NBA, including a stint with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Lorenzen Wright was last seen on July 18, 2010.

In the early morning hours of July 19, Wright called 911 from his cellphone. A Germantown dispatcher heard someone curse, followed by nearly a dozen gunshots.

Nine days later, Lorenzen Wright’s body was found in a southeast Memphis field.

When Wright’s body was found, he was still wearing expensive jewelry. Police looked into Wright’s dealings with associates in Atlanta regarding recent auto sales. Authorities even questioned his friends and even his wife, Sherra.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation did the forensics testing, but they cannot report any of the details because they are part of our confidential case files.
