Man in hot seat after scaling Atlanta fire truck ladder

What goes up must come down, as Derrick Brown found out early Thursday morning, perhaps not realizing the gravity of the situation he found himself in.

According to Atlanta police, Brown took an unauthorized short cut into a burning building when, for unknown reasons, he climbed a fire response ladder into an apartment affected by the blaze.

After being ordered back down the ladder, Brown gave Atlanta police officer C. Fernandez two interesting pieces of information that took him from the fire into the frying pan. He did not live at the location of the fire, 2610 Old Hapeville Road, and he had a couple of baggies of marijuana in his coat pocket, police said.

Brown, 20, was arrested and taken to the Atlanta City Jail on a charge of possession of marijuana less than one ounce (5.7 grams to be exact).
