Downtown Lawrenceville streets are getting a facelift, but what will they eventually look like?

This is "Actual Factual Gwinnett," a regular column in which I, Amanda Coyne, answer reader questions about Gwinnett happenings and history. Enjoy!

Reader Mike asks:

What are they doing with the roads in the city of Lawrenceville  — the downtown area by the post office on Crogan Street?

The city is working on a “Downtown Pedestrian Safety Project,” converting S. Perry and S. Clayton streets to two-way traffic. S. Clayton Street between Crogan and Pike streets will not be changed, however.

The project will also widen intersections throughout the city and improve pedestrian and traffic signals.

As of Nov. 13, the last update sent out by city officials, construction crews are working on projects including grading for a new curb and gutter from Dons Way to Luckie Street; concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk installation along Clayton Street; surveying; storm drain installation along Scenic Highway and Jackson Street at Highway 29 (Lawrenceville Highway); and electronic conduit installation.

To keep up with the project's progress, you can check the city's website for updates.
