Police in Appling County are looking for two people in connection with an aggravated assault on a food stand owner and her 15-year-old daughter.

Nathaniel Eric Smith and Latasha M. Smith are wanted on aggravated assault and cruelty to children charges in connection with Thursday’s attack after they were allegedly infuriated over a food order.

Jeanette Norris, who owns the Qwik Chick takeout stand next to U.S. Highway 1 in Baxley, told police an argument escalated after a couple ordered two meals and complained about the portion size and temperature, WTOC reported.

Baxley is about 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Latasha Smith is accused of striking Norris first and when the owner’s teenage daughter rushed to help, Nathaniel Smith allegedly punched her in the face, the news station reported.

Video obtained by Channel 2 Action News shows the violent attack during which Norris had her nose broken, paramedics later confirmed. Police confirmed the time stamp on the footage was wrong.

Baxley police Chief James Godfrey called the assault completely unprovoked and unlike anything he’d seen before, according to WTOC.

Police are searching for a cream or tan Cadillac Escalade with tag number REU8495. Officials believe the Smiths headed north on Highway 144.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Baxley Police Department at 912-367-8305 or the 911 call center at 912-367-8111.
