‘A very foolish thing’: Roswell woman, 75, fights off purse snatcher

The victim said she????had a purse stolen from her a few years ago, so she wasn??€™t going to let it happen again.

A 75-year-old Roswell woman fought back when someone stole her purse off a counter at a local post office.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, told Channel 2 Action News she was busy with stamps when all she saw was a hand reach for her pocketbook.

“I realized he's stealing my purse,” she said.

Then, she admitted she did something police discourage when she grabbed the much bigger man and hung on as he dragged her outside.

“I did a very foolish thing because the car was running,” she told the news station. “I went into the car on top of him.”

As she yelled for her purse, the woman said others in the car agreed.

“The two guys were saying, ‘Dude, give her her damn purse back.’ I said, ‘Yes, give me my purse’ and I got out and they zoomed off.”

Roswell police spokeswoman Lisa Holland said officers never recommend wrestling with someone for a bag.

“Nothing inside your purse is worth your life,” Holland said.
