Decatur’s commission has rezoned a .15-acre lot in Oakhurst to neighborhood mixed use, paving the way for a small mixed-use development proposed by Mission Development LLC.

This is the site of the old Oakview Grocery, which dates at least to the 1940s and has been closed for several years. Plans call for its replacement with a 4,900 square foot building, including a ground floor commercial space and upper floor residential.

Other features include seven on-site but off-street parking spaces including four tucked under the building, along with an onsite storm water detention facility.

“It’s too early to say what the commercial will be,” said Kashka Scott, general contractor for Mission. “It will probably have to be something with normal business hours. Given the feedback we got from the neighborhood, a restaurant might not be feasible, but I’m not ruling anything out.”

If everything goes right, Scott said, demolition of the old grocery should occur later this year, with ground broken for the new building early next year. He added that he hopes to finish the project in late summer, 2018.
