Sandy Springs reopens Lake Forrest Drive

Sandy Springs has reopened Lake Forrest Drive to vehicular traffic after city crews attended to a slope and put in barriers to help contain any future falling rocks, officials said.

Lake Forrest, a street that runs south of Interstate 285 from Sandy Springs to Buckhead, was closed March 9 between Stewart and Maryeanna drives because of the instability of the slope and the potential for rock slides. Since then, crews have removed trees on the top edge of the slope that were at risk of falling, and installed temporary Jersey barriers along the street.

“The city will continue its evaluation of the wall to determine any needed long-term repairs,” officials said.

A section of Lake Forrest just south of this location was shut down in February 2013 due to similar slope stability issues, and the street was closed for repairs for several months.
