The Sandy Springs City Council has given the go-ahead for a $711,425 contract for the Abernathy Greenway South Trail System project.

Pending review and approval by the legal and finance departments, Chappell Construction Group Inc. is the successful bidder of three for the project along the south side of Abernathy Road. The city’s Recreation and Parks staff will manage the project, which will be funded by impact fees.

Chappell will be responsible for minor clearing and grading to install a slate chip walking trail, and installing plants and furniture, according to the contract. The work is to take about nine months to complete.

The first phase of the Abernathy Greenway Linear Park opened in July 2014, and extends along the north side of Abernathy Road between Brandon Mill and Wright Roads.
