Reduce the drug crisis by giving Cobb cops your old meds this weekend

Marietta police will happily take some drugs off your hands this weekend.

The cops are joining with the Drug Enforcement Administration to hold a "drug take back" event Saturday in an effort to curb overdoses and abuse.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city police headquarters, 240 Lemon St., you can — with no questions asked — give the officers your expired, unused, and unwanted prescription pills.

Needles and liquids will not be accepted.

“Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs,” Marietta police said in a news release.

Studies show a majority of abused prescription drugs come from family and friends, including their medicine cabinets, the department said.

This is the 13th such event in the past five years the department has hosted.
