Nancy Farmer, whose late husband had served on the Powder Springs City Council, won election to that City Council on Nov. 7.

A member of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, Farmer received 197 votes, or 60.24 percent, to the 130 votes of Ward 3 Councilwoman Nancy J. Hudson.

However, the results are awaiting certification by Cobb County.

Farmer said she has been concerned with the possibility of increased taxes to the city’s residents to pay for revitalization of the city’s downtown area.

After repeatedly asking questions of city officials, including Mayor Al Thurman, during public meetings about funding for the downtown proposal, Farmer told the AJC in October she was told she would not be allowed to ask any more questions during public meetings since she is a candidate for public office.

Thurman has continued to say a final decision will not be made until the end of the year on downtown development plans.
