Powder Springs to charge new E911 rate in April

Powder Springs will begin charging $1.50 per month for Emergency 911 service for each telephone connection, starting in April.

The new charge was approved recently by the Powder Springs City Council, affecting those whose exchange lines are in the city and upon each wireless telecommunications connection with primary use in the city.

Powder Springs contracts with the city of Smyrna for the operation of an E911 system, including enhanced E911 service to those with a wireless telecommunications connection by providing automatic number identification and automatic location identification.

State law allows this maximum charge by local governments.
