The parents of a 1-year-old girl said their daughter was happy and uninjured when they dropped her off at a Gwinnett County day care center last Friday.

But Lauren Newsome had two broken bones in her arm and bruises on her body when her parents picked her up, according to a Gwinnett County police report.

Jamee Newsome told police she believes her daughter’s injuries happened while in the care of staff at Rainbow Child Care Center in Sugar Hill, the report states.

A staff member at the center told Jamee Newsome another child must have removed the beads from Lauren’s hair that she wore to school.

The girl’s father, Lawanski Newsome, told Channel 2 Action News Lauren wouldn’t stop crying when he tried to buckle her in her car seat after they picked her up Friday.

“I'm just looking at her arm, and it was just dangling,” he said. “She couldn't bend it.”

When they took Lauren to the emergency room, doctors took an x-ray and confirmed she’d broken both the ulna and radius bones in her right arm. That’s when the couple called police and filed a report.

Emily Weitz, a corporate spokeswoman for Rainbow Child Care Center released a statement saying they’d opened an investigation.

“We were surprised and upset to hear about Lauren’s injury, as she appeared to be in great spirits when she left our facility Friday evening,” Weitz said in the statement. “We understand the parents’ concern, and we share them. We are not aware of any incident occurring in our Center that would have led to the injury, however, we are conducting an internal investigation, have notified our state licensing representative and are working openly with appropriate authorities as they review this matter.”
