An online Italian meal kit delivery service, which donates an emergency meal to a child in need with every kit sold, launched this month in Atlanta.

Vero Pizza & Pasta provides ingredients, recipes and instructional videos so people can make meals — such as margherita pizza, eggplant parmigiana and artichoke salad — at home. Customers can make one-time purchases or start a subscription, which allows them to choose how frequently they'd like to receive kits, what day of the week works best and how many kits they'd like per delivery.

Subscription items range from about $10 to $55. Ingredients are sourced from farmers and artisans in St. Louis, and refrigerated boxes keep the food cold during delivery.

Vero was started by Katie Collier, who opened Katie’s Pizza & Pasta Osteria in St. Louis after she lived in Florence, Italy, as a young adult with her mother.

The business partners with Operation Food Search, a nonprofit that provides emergency food distribution and nutritional education programs, to donate meals. The organization distributes food and necessities to 330 partners in 31 Missouri and Illinois counties.

The altruistic element stems from Collier’s past. She was homeless seven years ago but “got sober, met her husband, and then together they launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for their first restaurant,” according to a press release.

Collier’s restaurant group employs 250 people, many of whom are recovered addicts. Her company has donated more than $150,000 to local charities, including shelters for women and the homeless, the statement said.
