Mayor Lockwood re-elected, 2 newcomers to council in Milton


The majority of voters in Milton are satisfied with how Joe Lockwood has led the city.

On Tuesday, voters elected Lockwood to a fourth term as the city’s mayor.

Lockwood garnered 66 percent of Tuesday’s vote, defeating challenger Dr. Laura Rencher in the mayor’s race. A total of 4,452 people voted in the mayoral election.

Milton also elected two new city council members. Peyton Jamison ran unopposed and won the District 1 seat, succeeding Karen Thurman who did not seek re-election. Laura Bentley defeated incumbent councilman Bill Lusk for the District 2 seat, taking 71 percent of the vote.

For the District 3 seat, incumbent councilman Joseph Longoria ran unopposed.

Lockwood has been the city’s mayor since 2006 and is the founder of the construction firm, JK Lockwood Construction. In the District 2 city council race, he endorsed Bentley.
