Mayor, council seat contested in Sandy Springs

Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul faces a challenge from a local businessman, and three newcomers aim to succeed two City Council members, according candidate qualifying documents for the Nov. 7 municipal election.

Paul has been mayor since 2013, served one council term and is a former state senator and former chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, according to his biography.

His challenger, David Crim, is president of BetterCE, an E-learning company for insurance professionals. He has been a business consultant, insurance executive and deputy commissioner of the Georgia Department of Insurance, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Le’Dor Milteer and Jody Reichel are vying for the District 4 council seat of Gabriel Sterling, who is leaving to run for Fulton County Board of Commissioners chair. Steve Soterest is unopposed seeking the District 2 seat being vacated by Ken Dishman.

Incumbent council members John Paulson (District 1), Chris Burnett (District 3), Tibby DeJulio (District 5) and Andy Bauman (District 6) also are running unopposed.
