Dansby Swanson will forever be in the outfield at Marietta High School.
That’s where the school put a sign with his number — 3 — which was retired Monday night at the Blue Devils’ opening game of the season.
The Atlanta Braves shortstop, despite legitimate hitting concerns that put him on the bench and beyond, had a breakout season with his hometown professional team.
From the looks of pictures Marietta City Schools posted on Facebook, Swanson took pictures with and signed autographs for fans of all ages Monday night.

Swanson played (and played well) both baseball and basketball at MHS.
Swanson was the first pick of the 2015 MLB draft, where he went to the Arizona Diamondbacks from Vanderbilt University.

Six months later, the Braves snagged the 21-year-old (sans paying that franchise-impact bonus) along with Shelby Miller for Aaron Blair and Ender Inciarte.
"He was a standout in everything he did," Chris Stafford, head coach for the Marietta High School baseball team, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the time.
By the way, Marietta beat Campbell High on Monday with a score of 10-0.
