Man arrested for allegedly raping a student in a Kennesaw State dorm

A man has been accused of raping a female student inside a Kennesaw State University dormitory room.

Miller Michael Menetre, of Roswell, has been in Cobb County jail a week without bond, records show.

His defense attorney Reid Thompson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday that the 22-year-old maintains it was a consensual encounter.

The incident allegedly happened on Sept. 21 at the University Village dorms on Canton Place Northwest, according to a warrant.

Menetre, the woman and her roommate were hanging out in the dorm’s common area until 2 a.m., the warrant said.

In the three hours before then, the woman told police she had had three Mike’s Hard Lemonades.

About 15 to 30 minutes after the last drink, “she began (feeling) dizzy and tired, so (Menetre) carried her into her room and put her in bed,” the warrant said.

The woman told police she remembered Menetre leaving her room, then waking up later and realizing what had allegedly happened.

“All parties prior to the meeting that evening agreed that (Menetre) would sleep on the couch, however, (Menetre) stated the victim in this case invited him into the room after he laid her down,” the warrant said.

The roommate told police that she thought he was still sleeping on the couch.

Thompson said Menetre had known the woman for two weeks before the alleged crime.

He said his client cooperated with detectives and went in for an interview soon after.

Thompson said Menetre was a Kennesaw State student but transferred to Georgia State University before the incident.

Menetre, who has been in Cobb jail since Feb. 1, has a magistrate court appearance scheduled for March 6.

Kennesaw State police records indicate that there have been no reports of sexual violence on the main campus this year so far.
