With Lawrenceville’s recent announcement of Police Chief Randy Johnson’s plans for retirement, the city is now seeking qualified candidates to fill his shoes. The new chief of police will oversee the day-to-day operations of Lawrenceville’s police department, working to ensure public safety for the community. Qualifications include a minimum of 10 years experience, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and POST certification, among others.
“We are looking for the next public safety leader, not just an officer with the listed qualifications,” said City Manager Chuck Warbington. “This position is critical to the stability of the community and must be a person who takes to heart the welfare of his or her employees. Our officers do a remarkable thing, standing between order and chaos, between life and death, every single day. Their leader must be a remarkable individual capable of continuing to guide the department while caring for the community.”
This search comes as a result of Johnson’s announcement to retire in March after serving as chief of police for 21 years. The city will be accepting applications through Feb. 9. The city hopes to conduct interviews and have a selection for hire by mid-March, just prior to the chief’s retirement date.
