The number of Gwinnett County elementary schools with language immersion classes is expanding to 9.

Level Creek, Meadowcreek and Parsons elementary schools will add the programs in 2018 and 2019, Gwinnett County Public Schools announced.

Level Creek and Meadowcreek will offer Spanish starting in kindergarten as a part of the Dual Language Immersion program starting in August 2018. In August 2019, Parsons Elementary School will launch the district’s first Korean immersion program.

The Dual Language Immersion Program teaches elementary school students in English for half of class time and in other languages for the other half of class time. Students have two teachers, each specializing in a different language.

Annistown Elementary School, Baldwin Elementary School, Bethesda Elementary School, Camp Creek Elementary School and Ivy Creek Elementary School all offer Spanish immersion and Trip Elementary School offers French immersion.

“The success of our current programs and increased parental interest in the DLI program is driving this expansion,” said Jon Valentine, director of foreign language for Gwinnett County Public Schools, in a district release.“It will provide a competitive advantage for our students, our schools and the communities they serve.”

Information will be available for parents of incoming kindergartners starting in February 2018.
