Responding to recent changes in state law and a company interested in establishing a microbrewery in the city’s Technology Park, the Johns Creek City Council has voted to let breweries sell limited amounts of beer and malt beverages.
Previously, local ordinances did not permit such sales unless a brewery also was an eating establishment.
Eliminating this probation by amending the definition of a “brewpub would make Johns Creek’s (alcoholic) beverage and zoning ordinances conform to the new state law and support the growing industry of microbrewers in Georgia,” Community Development Director Sharon L. Ebert said in a report to the council.
The change would assist efforts by the city to revitalize Technology Park as “a desirable work-live-play environment,” Ebert said, citing the new city hall and linear park projects. It would let microbreweries “establish their business in a location that has been identified as a potential Town Center and potential entertainment center.”
