A commercial rezoning at Hwy. 81 and Snapping Shoals Road has been approved by Henry County commissioners.

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved the rezoning of four acres at the southwest corner of Hwy. 81 and Snapping Shoals Road for the purpose of developing a gas station and mixed-commercial retail center.

The future land use map shows three corners at that intersection designated for commercial use, and the fourth is Henry County Water Authority property. There was some citizen opposition to the proposal which had received a recommendation from the Zoning Advisory Board for C-1 instead of the requested C-3 zoning. Commissioner Gary Barham noted the a constitutional letter had already been sent to the board on behalf of the applicant and county attorney Patrick Jaugstetter explained the possibilities regarding a legal challenge if the request were denied. Barham moved to allow C-1 zoning with staff conditions, and that motion was approved.
