The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has awarded a contract for more than $6 million to build a bridge over the Alcovy River and a new multi-use path in Lawrenceville.
The contract for $6,041,798 was awarded on Feb. 6 to CMES, Inc., the lowest of four bidders for the project.

The new bridge will replace an existing one. It will also help address flooding issues in the area and provide more clearance between the river and bridge deck, a county release said.
Walkers, runners and bikers will be among those who will be able to use the new path, which will run along New Hope Road in Lawrenceville. The path will stretch for 1.2 miles between Callie Still Road and Alcovy River Drive. The project will also include gutter and drainage improvements over a 1.6-mile stretch.
The project will be funded with revenue from the 2009 and 2014 SPLOST programs.
