The Grayson City Council announced plans to set the millage rate for property taxes at 2.10 mills. This is the same rate as the past two years but will result in slightly higher property taxes because of increased property values. Combined with growth in the area, the city anticipates this will generate an additional $65,797 in revenue, a 23.52 percent increase.
Georgia law requires municipalities to calculate a rollback millage rate when property values increase that will result in the same total revenue as the previous year. When the city’s millage rate is higher than the calculated rollback rate, the city must advertise the rate as an increase.
Grayson will hold three public hearings to discuss the tax increase at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 11 and at 7 p.m. July 18 at City Hall, 475 Grayson Parkway.
