Funeral today for slain Griffin officer

The funeral will be held later today for the Griffin police officer shot and killed outside a Spalding County Waffle House last month.

The funeral for Kevin Jordan begins at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church on Lakeside Drive in Williamson.

The funeral procession will leave the church following the service for Westwood Gardens Cemetery on Everee Inn Road in Griffin.

Jordan, 43, was killed May 31 while trying to apprehend a suspect outside the Griffin Waffle House where he was working an off-duty security job.

Griffin police said Michael D. Bowman, 30, shot Jordan multiple times as he tried to arrest Bowman’s girlfriend, Chantell Mixon. Bowman, Mixon and Tyler Taylor had been asked to leave the restaurant after causing a disturbance, according to police.

Jordan was on the ground trying to restrain Mixon when Bowman “maliciously shot” him multiple times in the back, Griffin police Lt. Mike Richardson said. Bowman and Mixon were charged with felony murder.
