The Fulton County Board of Education re-approved the district’s 2018 millage rate at its most recent meeting with school officials saying the combined rate of 18.546 continues to be the lowest school tax rate in metro Atlanta.

Officials said that while the debt service portion of the rate remains at zero, the maintenance and operations portion of the level was adjusted by 0.063 mills-going from 18.483 to 18.546 to equal the rollback millage rate. A district spokeswoman said in an e-mail that with the Board of Commissioners decision to freeze the 2016 tax digest on residential properties, incoming revenue based on re-assessments generated less than the prior year. Thus the board’s adoption of the rollback rate will keep revenue level with 2017.

The rate was first approved in September but the State Department of Revenue said advertising requirements weren’t met since the vote was moved by one day due to Tropical Storm Irma. That necessitated re-advertising tax digest history and re-approval of the rate.
