East Cobb Pipeline construction will close 2 roads this weekend

With thousands of people affected daily by the East Cobb Pipeline Project construction along Lower Roswell Road, AJC reader Peter Tosto strolled over recently and shares this photo of the work so far. He said he, like others wanted to see what’s actually happening. “It’s pretty impressive!” he said. Photo courtesy of Peter Tosto/Special to the AJC

Crews will interrupt traffic at a Cobb County intersection through the weekend as they install a major water pipeline.

Workers will continue to lay the East Cobb Pipeline at Indian Hills Parkway and Lower Roswell Road from 9 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday if weather cooperates.

Flaggers and cops will alternate traffic lanes on Lower Roswell. Vehicles will be able to enter and exit Cove Drive in either direction, but will have to take a detour instead of heading onto Indian Hills.

From the looks of the county's interactive map, which you can see below, this will be the last section of the pipeline crews will work on.

This is a once-in-a-generation job for the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority, which is the second-largest provider of drinking water in Georgia.

The agency set out to replace 6.1 miles of a 50-year-old smaller water pipe with a 54-inch line that weighs about 500 pounds per foot.
