Decatur’s school board has approved a three-year contract extension for Superintendent David Dude whose second anniversary on the job was Nov. 2.

He’s currently making an annual salary of $189,000 in the third and final year of his original contract, which expires June 30, 2018. The extension pays him a base salary of $199,000 for the 2018-19 school year (beginning July 1), $209,000 for 2019-20 and $219,000 for 2020-21.

For each school year he’s eligible for an annual performance bonus of up to $20,000.

Dude was hired in 2015 after a five-month search. He is only the 10th superintendent of City Schools Decatur since 1902. The previous nine superintendents have had an average tenure of 12.44 years.

Other details of his new contract:

  • A monthly allowance of $1,500 to cover performance-of-duty expenses including automobile operation and insurance.
  • 45 days paid vacation annually.
  • 30 days annual sick leave.
  • Two annual performance evaluations by the school board, at mid school year, and at the end of the school year.
