City Schools Decatur has purchased more land next to Westchester Elementary, this parcel comprising 0.4 acres at 204 Westchester Drive. CThe cost is $515,000 with a closing date of May 11.

In January 2016 CSD, purchased the house next door at 208 Westchester at 0.3 acres for $489,000. Both properties back up to the eastern edge of the school’s property.

“It’s too early to say what we’ll do over there,” Superintendent David Dude said this week. “It opens the possibility of adding on. It’s challenging getting in and out of Westchester. We could be looking at a driveway, or drop-off point or more parking.

“Basically,” he added, “we don’t have the money to do a project right now. That would be a project for the next capital phase in a couple years.”

CSD has made several property purchases over the last two years. This includes a total of seven acres on Talley Street and South Columbia Drive which will be the future site of some type of elementary school. In November 2015, the school system purchased 0.7 acres next to the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center.
