Cumming’s longtime mayor is seeking another four years in office.
Mayor H. Ford Gravitt made his intentions known recently. He said he was contacted by more than 200 supporters and residents urging him to make the run despite some recent health issues.
Gravitt, 75, was first elected in 1971 after serving two terms on the city council. He said among the accomplishments of his lengthy tenure have been building two new city halls, working with county officials to construct the new courthouse and jail complex and bringing a campus of the University of North Georgia to the city. He said he’s also proud that the city has no debt.
The veteran city official said that among his goals for a next term are improving the water and sewer infrastructure, building replacement municipal court facilities and working with county and school board officials to construct a new sports complex.
Cumming businessman Troy Brumbalow has also thrown his hat into the mayoral ring.
