Cops: Man steals dog from DeKalb woman on a walk

Brookhaven police are searching for a man who is accused of stealing a dog from a woman on a walk.

The dog, a 2-year-old Yorkie named Blondie, was snatched last Friday on Barone Avenue near Clairmont Road, police said in news release Tuesday.

"The victim advised as she was walking her dog on Barone Ave, her dog was able to break free from her control with the leash still attached and run towards an unknown male subject," the release, issued on Facebook, said. "The male subject then bent down, grabbed the dog and fled the scene towards Clairmont Rd."

This moment of urgency comes in the wake of the recent behavior by County Commissioner Tommy Hunter, who last weekend called civil rights...

At Issue: How should Norcross handle downtown railroad crossing?

In December, the Norcross City Council heard proposals addressing concerns for transportation and pedestrian safety at the Norfolk Southern Railroad Crossing at Holcomb Bridge Road. The railroad crossing made news most recently when a tractor-trailer was demolished after becoming stuck on the tracks. Fortunately no one was injured, but contents inside...

Community Voices: What is a CID and does it affect me?

I hear a lot about community improvement districts lately, so I’ve been wondering how they might affect me as a resident of Gwinnett County. A Community Improvement District is a quasi-governmental entity with the power to self-tax commercial property owners for public improvement projects. Currently, metro Atlanta has 26 CIDs, with Gwinnett...
